Jeffs Fall at Third-Ranked Middlebury, 7-2
February 8 - The Amherst menís hockey team fell at third-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Sunday, 7-2. Middlebury seniors John Dawson and Kevin Cooper and junior Brian Phinney each scored two goals as the Panthers improved to 17-2 overall and 12-2 in conference play. The Jeffs drop to 9-9-2 overall, 4-9-1 in conference. Full Story

Jeffs Take Early Two-Goal Lead, Bow at Williams, 4-3
February 7 - The Amherst menís hockey team took an early 2-0 lead on first-period goals by sophomore A.J. Greco and first-year Sean Ellis but couldnít hang on in a key NESCAC matchup at Williams College on Saturday, falling 4-3 to the archrival Ephs. Amherst connected once more on a power-play tally by Beau Kretzman with 14:19 left in regulation, but the late outburst proved to be too little, too late as the Jeffs fell to 9-8-2 overall and 4-8-1 in conference play. Jeffs Fall to NEC, 2-1
January 31 - In a game marred by penalties, visiting ECAC East foe New England College (NEC) defeated the Amherst menís hockey team 2-1 on Saturday. The Pilgrims used a short-handed goal by junior tri-captain Adam Wallace to earn the victory, improving to 12-4-2 overall and 6-3-2 in conference play. Sophomore A.J. Greco netted the Jeffs lone score as they fell to 9-7-2 overall and 4-7-1. Full Story

Jeffs Edged by St. Anselm, 3-2
January 30 - The Amherst menís hockey team fell to visiting ECAC East rival St. Anselm College on Friday night, 3-2. The Amherst defense killed three consecutive power plays and held the visitors to just one goal in the first two periods, but allowed two third-period goals to fall to 9-6-2 overall and 4-6-1 in conference play. St. Anselm first-year Mike Curtis netted the game-winner with 6:47 left in regulation as the Hawks improved to 14-4 overall and 7-4 in conference play. Jeffs Bow at Skidmore in Overtime, 4-3
January 24 - The Amherst menís hockey team fell at ECAC East rival Skidmore College 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. Skidmore senior Jeff Martin netted the game-winner in the extra session after dishing out the game-tying assist to force overtime. Amherst sophomores A.J. Greco and Steve Nelson each had a goal and an assist for the Jeffs. Full Story

Cherney's Hat Trick Leads Jeffs to 9-1 Win at Castleton State
January 23 - Junior forward Josh Cherney netted his first career hat trick to lead the Amherst menís hockey team to a 9-1 victory at non-conference foe Castleton State College on Friday night. The Jeffs outshot the Spartans 71-18 en route to their ninth win of the year, improving to 9-4-2 overall. Full Story

14th-Ranked Jeffs Drop 5-4 Heartbreaker to Salem State
January 17 - The 14th-ranked Amherst menís hockey team dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to visiting ECAC East opponent Salem State College on Saturday. Salem State sophomore Jim Cashins fed classmate Drew Madeiros for the game-tying goal, and Madeiros returned the favor for the game-winner as the Vikings improved to 9-5-1 overall and 5-4-0 in conference play. Junior co-captain Beau Kretzman had a goal and an assist and first-year defender Brandon Zangel dished out two assists for the Jeffs, who fell to 8-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play. 14th-Ranked Jeffs Skate Past Southern Maine, 3-2
January 16 - The 14th-ranked Amherst menís hockey team earned a narrow 3-2 victory over visiting ECAC East foe Southern Maine on Friday night. Amherst sophomore A.J. Greco netted the game-winner for the Jeffs, who snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-3-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play with the win. Full Story

13th-Ranked Jeffs Fall to Wesleyan, 3-1
January 10 - The 13th-ranked Amherst menís hockey team fell to NESCAC, ECAC East and Little Three rival Wesleyan University 3-1 on Saturday. The Cardinals used second-period goals from senior Grant Savage and first-years Ryan Hendrickson and Will Bennett as they improved to 6-3-2 (4-1-1 ECAC East), while Amherst dropped to 7-2-2 (3-2-1 ECAC East). 13th-Ranked Jeffs Trip Up Trinity, 2-1
January 9 - The 13th-ranked Amherst menís hockey team used two second period goals and an outstanding performance in net by first-year Dan Smith to defeat visiting NESCAC and ECAC East foe Trinity College 2-1 on Friday night. Smith posted his second-consecutive 41 save performance, and junior co-captain Beau Kretzman and senior co-captain John McNicholas scored goals as the Jeffs improved to 7-1-2 (3-1-1 ECAC East). 13th-Ranked Jeffs Skate to 4-4 Non-League Tie at Gustavus Adolphus
January 4 - The 13th-ranked Amherst men's hockey team took a 3-1 lead into the third period Sunday evening at non-league foe Gustavus Adolphus (5-5-1) but surrendered a trio of goals, including two in the final two minutes of regulation, to send the game into overtime, where it ended in a 4-4 tie. Rookie Sean Ellis, sophomores Marc Russell and Steve Nelson and junior Roy Mabrey each scored for the Jeffs (6-1-2). Full Story

13th-Ranked Jeffs Handle St. Thomas, 4-2
January 3 - Sophomore Bradford Craigen, senior Mike Kreger, junior Jon Hill and rookie Sean Ellis each found the back of the net during a frenetic six-minute stretch in the third period as the Amherst menís hockey team downed the University of St. Thomas 4-2 at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Saturday. First-year goalie Dan Smith tallied a whopping 41 saves as St. Thomas outshot the Jeffs by a wide margin, 43-18. Full Story

11th-Ranked Jeffs Dealt First Loss, 6-0, at Fourth-Ranked Norwich
December 6 - The 11th-ranked Amherst College menís hockey team dropped its first loss of the season, 6-0, at fourth-ranked ECAC East rival Norwich University on Saturday. Junior Paul Mattucci scored twice as the Cadets improved to 5-1 (4-0 ECAC East). Amherst first-year goalie Dan Smith collected 27 saves in the loss as the Jeffs fell to 5-1-1 (2-1-1 ECAC East). Jeffs Remain Undefeated With 6-3 Win at St Michael's
December 5 - The Amherst menís hockey team remained undefeated with a 6-3 win at ECAC East rival St. Michaelís College on Friday. Junior Scott Aldrich had two goals and an assist, senior Josh Hoffman scored two goals and junior Roy Mabrey had a goal and two assists as the Jeffs improved to 5-0-1. Full Story

Kretzman Named NESCAC Player of the Week
December 1 - Amherst junior co-captain Beau Kretzman was named the NESCAC Menís Ice Hockey Player of the Week on Monday. Kretzman, a forward, earned Tournament MVP honors at the Ben McCabe Invitational hosted by Amherst, leading the undefeated Jeffs (4-0-1) to a pair of wins over SUNY Cortland and Trinity College. Kretzman Named Tournament MVP, Leads Jeffs to Ben McCabe Invitational Championship With 2-1 Overtime Win Over Trinity
November 30 - The Amherst menís hockey team defeated Trinity College in overtime in the Ben McCabe Invitational Championship Game, hosted by Amherst on Saturday, 2-1. Amherst junior co-captain Beau Kretzman earned tournament MVP honors as he fed first-year defender Brandon Zangel for the game-winner in overtime. Fellow junior Marc Russell scored his first collegiate goal for the Jeffs to force the extra session, while first-year goalie Josh Fillman collected a tournament-best 34 saves. Full Story

Jeffs Edge Cortland State, 6-5; Advance to Ben McCabe Championship
November 29 - The Amherst menís hockey team scored two goals in the final minute of regulation to edge visiting non-conference foe Cortland State in the opening round of the Ben McCabe Invitational Tournament Saturday night. Junior co-captain Beau Kretzman fired in a wrister with 47 seconds remaining to even the tally at 5-5, and sophomore Steve Nelson punched home the game-winner with 15 seconds left as the Jeffs remain undefeated at 3-0-1 (1-0-1 ECAC East) and advance to the championship game tomorrow at 7 p.m. against Trinity College. Jeffs Remain Undefeated, Down Wentworth, 4-2
November 25 - The Amherst menís hockey team remained undefeated, dealing visiting non-conference foe Wentworth its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, 4-2. The Jeffs used two goals from junior co-captain Beau Kretzman, and a goal each from senior defender Chris Norqual and senior forward Mike Kreger en route to their second victory of the season. November 22 - The Amherst menís hockey team battled visiting ECAC East foe Babson College to a 3-3 overtime tie on Saturday. Amherst junior co-captain Beau Kretzman netted two power-play goals, the second coming with only 22 seconds remaining in regulation, and sophomore A.J. Greco added his first goal of the season. Jeffs Blank UMass Boston in Season Opener, 4-0
November 21 - The Amherst menís ice hockey team blanked visiting ECAC East opponent UMass Boston 4-0 in its season opener Friday night. The Jeffs used goals from junior co-captain Beau Kretzman, fellow junior Scott Aldrich, and seniors Josh Hoffman and Mike Kreger, while first-year netminder Dan Smith earned his first career shutout with 34 saves. Jeffs Set for 2003-04 Season
November 17 - The Amherst menís hockey team, led by senior co-captain John McNicholas and junior co-captain Beau Kretzman, is set to defend their 2002-03 Little Three title and look to return to the NESCAC Postseason Tournament for the fifth straight year.
