Jeffs Ninth at Williams Challenge, Seventh at Palamountain Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA & SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Amherst College men’s golf team tied Middlebury College for ninth at the Williams Spring Challenge, hosted by Williams College at the Taconic Golf Club last Saturday, and placed seventh at the Palamountain Invitational, hosted by Skidmore College at the McGregor Links Country Club on Sunday and Monday. Amherst junior captain Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) led the way, earning medallist honors at the Palamountain Invitational with a two-day total of 73-76-149, and finishing tied for 13th at Williams with a round of 79.

The Jeffs shot a 338 at Williams, 28 strokes shy of team champion New York University. Sophomore David Litt (Bethesda, MD) and first-year Sean Jules (Chicago, IL) shot matching rounds of 86, good for 48th place overall, while fellow rookie Andrew Bruns (Eaton, OH) finished just one shot back with an 87, tying for 53rd. Sophomore Keith Zalaski (Simsbury, CT) rounded out the top five for Amherst with a 91.

Sharaf’s score at Skidmore was a season low and his first tournament win of the season. The Jeffs shot a 331 the first day and sat in 12th place, but rebounded with a 323 on Day 2 to earn their seventh-place finish. Bruns claimed 24th with an 82-78-160, and Jules posted an 86-82-168, good for 48th. Litt and Zalaski finished with rounds of 90-87-177 and 93-95-188, respectively.

Amherst returns to Williams this Friday through Sunday for the District One Championships.
