Harper Named First-Team ECAC Division III All-Star

April 5, 2004

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College senior guard Adam Harper (Washington, DC) was named a First-Team Division III Men’s Basketball All-Star by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Monday, joining fellow NESCAC honorees Michael Crotty and Ben Coffin from Williams College and Trinity College’s Tyler Rhoten.

Harper, the two-time NESCAC Defensive Player of the year and a First-Team NABC and D3hoops.com All-Region selection, shattered a single-season school record with a conference-best 105 steals, becoming the college’s all-time leader with 321 career thefts. He graduates as Amherst’s 10th all-time leading scorer with 1,228 career points after leading the Jeffs to the NCAA Round of 32 as a rookie, the Round of 16 as a sophomore, the national quarterfinals as a junior and the college’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Final four as a senior.

Harper averaged 13.1 points on the season but poured in a team-best 19.8 points per contest in five NCAA Tournament games, highlighted by a 29-point outburst in the Jeffs’ 113-85 NCAA Second-Round win over visiting Plymouth State University. He followed that up with a game-high 26 points in Amherst’s 86-81 loss to archrival Williams College in the national semifinals in Salem, Virginia.

Amherst finished the year at 27-5, setting a new school record for wins in a season.
