Harmeling, Burke & Agarwal Excel at Women's College Squash Association Individual Championships
March 3 - Playing in the “B” Division at the Women’s College Squash Association Individual Championships hosted by Trinity College over the weekend, Amherst sophomore Ashley Harmeling advanced all the way to the championship match, where she fell to Merrill Muckerman 9-7, 9-3, 10-9. One of her four victories came against senior co-captain teammate Susanna Burke in the tournament semifinals. Amherst’s other senior co-captain, Roopali Agarwal, advanced to the quarterfinal round before bowing to eventual “B” Division national champion Muckerman. Full Story

Burke Wins Wetzel Award at Howe Cup Nationals
February 21 - Amherst women’s squash senior co-captain Susanna Burke was presented the prestigious Wetzel Award at the Howe Cup National Tournament, hosted by Yale University Friday through Sunday, February 14-16. The award, named in honor of former University of Pennsylvania women’s squash coach Ann Wetzel, is presented annually to a deserving senior from a field of national nominees who began her playing career at the collegiate level, while exhibiting outstanding technical growth, understanding of the rules of squash and positive on-court poise and demeanor. Jeffs Down Vassar, Fall to Bates & Colby, at Howe Cup Nationals
February 18 - Playing in the “B” Division (for teams ranked ninth through 16th nationally) at the Howe Cup Nationals at Yale University over the weekend, the Amherst women’s squash team won its first-round match over Vassar College, 6-3, before bowing to Bates College by the same score in the semifinals. The Jeffs then played Colby College in an 11-12 playoff match on Sunday, but fell 5-4. Full Story

10th-Ranked Jeffs Host Little Three; Split with Wesleyan, Williams
February 8 - The 10th ranked Amherst women’s squash team hosted the Little Three Championship Tournament on Saturday and split a pair of matches with 22nd-ranked Wesleyan and sixth-ranked Williams. Amherst snapped a three-match losing skid with its 9-0 win over Wesleyan. Senior co-captain Susanna Burke surrendered just one point in her match, a 9-0, 9-0, 9-1 victory of Wesleyan junior Dina Guth. Full Story

Women's Squash Falls to Third-Ranked Yale, 9-0
February 5 - Third-ranked Yale University blanked No. 11 Amherst 9-0 in women’s squash action on Wednesday night, sweeping all nine matches 3-0. The loss was Amherst’s third straight, all against top-10 ranked Ivy League opponents. Full Story

Jeffs Bow to Second-Ranked Harvard
February 3 - The Amherst women’s squash team played its second Ivy League opponent in as many days on Monday and came away with its second straight loss, falling to visiting second-ranked Harvard University 9-0. The Jeffs also lost to fourth-ranked Princeton University on Sunday. Harvard swept eight of Monday’s nine matches by 3-0 scores. Amherst No. 4 Liz Martin put up a valiant effort for the Jeffs, falling to Harvard sophomore Laura Delano in five games. Full Story

Jeffs Fall to Fourth-Ranked Princeton
February 2 - The Amherst women’s squash team had a two-match winning streak snapped against fourth-ranked Ivy League power Princeton University at Yale on Sunday, 9-0. In what turned out to be the match of the afternoon, Amherst junior Liz Martin extended Princeton’s Anne Warner to five games before falling 9-7, 9-0, 8-10, 7-9, 9-3. Full Story

11th-Ranked Jeffs Improve to 11-5 With 6-3 Win Over Wellesley
January 30 - The 11th-ranked Amherst women’s squash team posted its sixth win in its last seven outings on Thursday - a 6-3 victory at 15th-ranked Wellesley College. The Jeffs, now 11-5 on the season, racked up five 3-0 wins, led by Ashley Harmeling’s 9-3, 9-0, 9-6 victory over Wellesley No. 1 Wendy Huang. Full Story

Jeffs Rebound with 9-0 Win Over Smith
January 28 - After having a five-match win streak snapped against seventh-ranked Ivy League power Brown University last week, the Amherst women’s squash team got back on track with a 9-0 shutout win over visiting Smith College on Tuesday night. Rookie Lauren Coape-Arnold was particularly dominant, surrendering just two points en route to a 9-1, 9-1, 9-0 win over Smith’s Emma Adams. Full Story

Jeffs' Win Streak Snapped by Visiting Brown
January 21 - The Amherst women’s squash team had its five-match win streak snapped on Tuesday by visiting seventh-ranked Brown University, which surrendered just six games en route to a 7-2 win. Sophomore Ashley Harmeling and junior Liz Martin posted the lone wins for 11th-ranked Amherst. Martin rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to knot her match at 2-2 before her opponent, Tara Gibbons, defaulted due to injury. Full Story

Jeffs Cap Invitational Sweep with 6-3 Wins Over Colby, Vassar
January 19 - The Amherst women’s squash team capped a five-match sweep of its own invitational tournament with a pair of 6-3 wins over visiting Colby and Vassar Colleges on Sunday. Each of Amherst’s top-five players - Susanna Burke, Ashley Harmeling, Roopali Agarwal, Liz Martin and Emily Stark - won matches against both Colby and Vassar, as did the Jeffs’ No. 7, Annie MacRae. Jeffs Roll Past Mt. Holyoke & Wesleyan in Second Round of Amherst Invitational
January 18 - The Amherst women’s squash team remained perfect at its own Invitational Tournament on Saturday with a 7-2 win over 20th-ranked Mt. Holyoke College and a 9-0 shutout victory over 25th ranked Wesleyan University. Senior Emily Ratcliff posted her first two official collegiate wins, downing Mt. Holyoke’s Emily Lynch, 9-4, 9-5, 9-3, and rolling past Wesleyan’s Alyssa Frankel, 9-1, 9-4, 9-5. Full Story

Jeffs Blank Middlebury in Opening Round of Amherst Invitational
January 17 - The 11th ranked women's squash team improved to 5-4 with a 9-0 win against visiting Middlebury College in the opening round of the Amherst Invitational on Friday. Jeff junior Liz Martin provided the most dominating performance, a shutout victory over Colby's Eliza Funston. Full Story

Jeffs Blanked at Top-Ranked Trinity
January 16 - The Amherst women’s squash team ran into a buzz-saw on Thursday afternoon, falling to the top-ranked team in the nation, undefeated Trinity College, 9-0 at the George A. Kellner Squash Center. The host Bantams (4-0) swept all nine matches and surrendered just one point in five of its victories. Full Story

No. 11 Women's Squash Blanked at Fifth-Ranked Dartmouth
January 15 - The 11th ranked Amherst College women’s squash team fell to 4-3 with a 9-0 loss at fifth-ranked Ivy League Power Dartmouth College on Wednesday. Dartmouth swept eight of the nine matches by 3-0 scores. The lone Amherst player to steal a game was sophomore Ashley Harmeling, who lost to Julia Drury 3-1 (9-5/9-10/9-1/9-0). Full Story

11th-Ranked Women's Squash Posts 3-1 Mark at Williams Invitational
January 13 - The Amherst women’s squash team, ranked 11th in the latest College Squash Association national poll, returned from a 35-day hiatus to post a trio of wins over Wellesley, Colby and Bates Colleges, before falling to Bowdoin College, at Saturday and Sunday’s Williams College Invitational. Newcomer Ashley Harmeling and senior co-captain Roopali Agarwal posted wins in all four matches as the Jeffs improved to 4-2 overall. Full Story

Women's Squash Falls to Penn., 8-1
December 7 - The women's squash team fell to the University of Pennsylvania, 8-1, Saturday at Yale University. Senior Roopali Agarwal notched the lone win for the Jeffs. With the loss, Amherst drops to 1-1 on the season. Full Story

Women's Squash Blanks Tufts 9-0 in Season Opener
December 3 - The Amherst women’s squash team blanked visiting Tufts University 9-0 in its season opener on Tuesday night, highlighted by a 3-0 win by standout sophomore Ashley Harmeling in her Amherst debut. Full Story

2002-03 Women's Squash Set for Standout Season
December 2 - The 2002-03 women's squash team looks to pick up where it left off last season, opening its campaign with a Dec. 3 home match against Tufts University. Senior co-captain Susanna Burke, who finished her junior year ranked 27th nationally, will headline the Jeffs from the No. 1 slot. Senior co-captain Roopali Agarwal will likely repeat in the second spot, while sophomore Ali Gibbs and juniors Liz Martin and Emily Stark will fill out the middle of the lineup. Full Story
