April 25, 2003
S. HADLEY, MA - Senior co-captain Katie Gravel (New Hampton, NY) fired a tournament-low 79 to take individual medallist honors and lead the Amherst College women’s golf team to a second-place finish at Friday’s Mass. Amherst finished 14 strokes behind tournament champion Boston College, which posted an overall total of 334 and placed four golfers in the top eight.
Gravel’s scorching round included a red-hot 39 on the back nine. She finished one stroke ahead of Mount Holyoke College’s Audry Longo, who fired an 80 to place second individually, and has been the Jeffs’ top finisher in each their last five outings dating back to last fall.
Other Amherst finishers included sophomores Emily Foran (Dallas, PA) and Meg Sullivan (Northampton, MA), who tied for 14th place with matching rounds of 87. Amherst’s Sarah Godwin (Swarthmore, PA) and Jeannie Limpert (Washington, DC) tied for 18th and 25th individually with respective scores of 95 and 104.
The Jeffs return to action on Saturday and Sunday, hosting the Northeast Championships at the Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst, weather permitting.
