Morgan Named Division III National Co-Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association
May 21 - Already voted the Division III Region I Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), Amherst women’s golf coach Michelle Morgan was named the NGCA Division III Co-National Coach of the Year as well, sharing the honor with Kris Schoonover, head coach at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Host Jeffs Third at Northeast Championships
April 28 - Amherst finished third behind Boston University and Boston College at the Northeast Women’s Golf Championships, held at the Hickory Ridge Country Club on Saturday and Sunday. Senior co-captain Katie Gravel paced the host Jeffs for the sixth straight tournament, firing a team-best 86-85-171 and tying for 10th place individually. Full Story

Gravel Takes Medallist Honors, Jeffs Second to Boston College at Mass. State Invitational
April 25 - Senior co-captain Katie Gravel fired a tournament-low 79 to take individual medallist honors and lead the Amherst women’s golf team to a second-place finish at Friday’s Mass. State Invitational Tournament at the Orchards Golf Club. Amherst finished 14 strokes behind tournament champion Boston College, which posted an overall total of 334 and placed four golfers in the top eight. Full Story

Emily Foran's Pursuit of Women's Golf Excellence

April 23 - Some folks call golf a good walk spoiled. For Emily Foran '05, it was more like a good book spoiled. As a freshman at Amherst, in her first season of collegiate golf, she would contend for a national championship, earn Honorable Mention All-America honors and help lead her team to an unprecedented third-place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. But just eight years earlier, she preferred the safety of her bedroom and the comfort of a good book. Full Story

Jeffs Second at Wellesley Triangular
April 19 - The Amherst women's golf team notched second place at the two-day Wellesley Triangular at Nehoiden Golf Course. After shooting a 93 in the opening round, Jeff senior Katie Gravel rebounded to fire a second-round best 83 to lead Amherst. Full Story

Jeffs Fifth at Brown Spring Invitational
April 13 - Senior co-captain Katie Gravel paced the Amherst women’s golf team to fifth place in the team standings at the Brown University Spring Invitational over the weekend. Gravel’s 80-77-157 performance earned her fifth place in the individual standings, behind finishers from Dartmouth College and host Brown. Amherst sophomore Emily Foran rounded out the top 20 with a 91-81-172, 20th-place showing. Full Story

Jeffs Open Spring Slate with Narrow Loss to Wellesley College in Kiawah Island, SC
March 21 - The Amherst women’s golf team opened its spring 2003 slate with a dual match against Wellesley College in sunny Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Playing at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Course - home to several important championships, including the Carolinas' Amateur, the Carolinas' PGA, the South Carolina Amateur and the 1990 PGA Cup Matches - the Jeffs fell to Wellesley by a narrow 374-359 margin, despite a number of noteworthy individual performances. Women's Golf, Gravel Win Fall-Finale at Wellesley
October 12 - Senior co-captain Katie Gravel fired a tournament-low 84 to lead the Amherst women's golf team to a first-place finish at the Second-Annual Wellesley College Golf Invitational Saturday at Nehoiden Golf Course. The Jeffs shot a combined score of 370, six strokes ahead of runner-up Wellesley, to win their second consecutive tournament. Full Story

Foran, Jeffs Claim Lady Eph Invitational
October 8 - Amherst College sophomore sharpshooter Emily Foran fired a scorching round of 77 and prevailed in a three-way playoff to win the 2002 Lady Eph Fall Invitational, hosted by Williams College at the Taconic Golf Club, on Sunday. Amherst took the team title as well with a combined score of 332, five strokes better than runner-up St. Lawrence University. Full Story

Women's Golf Seventh at Mt. Holyoke Invite
September 29 - The Amherst women's golf team earned a seventh-place finish out of 20 teams at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational over the weekend, shooting a two-day total of 708. Ivy League power Harvard University claimed the top spot with a score of 644, barely holding off Long Island University-Brooklyn, which shot a team total of 645. Full Story

Jeffs Third at Bryant Invitational
September 22 - Senior co-captain Katie Gravel paced the Amherst women's golf team at this weekend's Bryant Women's Invitational. Gravel's 85-85-170 put her in a three-way tie for eighth place in the individual standings, solidifying the Jeffs' overall third-place finish behind second-place Fairfield University and standings leader Florida Gulf Coast University. Women's Golf 10th at Dartmouth Invitational
September 16 - The women's golf team shot a two-day total of 691, good for 10th place at the Dartmouth Invitational at Hanover Country Club over the weekend. Yale University took home the title with a score of 606, while the runner-up was Princeton University, recording a 609. Full Story

Women's Golf Sets Sights on 2003 NCAA Tournament
September 12 - The 2001-02 Amherst women's golf team, powered by a strong combination of veteran experience and blossoming rookie talent, made its mark on the national scene with a third-place team finish in the NCAA Division III Championships. The Jeffs will remain strong in 2002-03, led by sophomore sensation Emily Foran, who placed fourth individually at last year's national tournament. Full Story
