Jeffs Snap Six-Game Losing Skid With 63-40 Win Over Tufts
January 31 - The Amherst women’s basketball team held visiting NESCAC foe Tufts University to just 17.2% (10-for-58) shooting en route to a decisive 63-40 win on Friday night. The victory, which snapped a six-game losing skid, was the Jeffs’ first in conference play as they improved to 10-7 overall and 1-4 in the NESCAC. Tufts entered the game with a five-game winning streak but fell to 13-3 (2-2 NESCAC) with the loss. Full Story

Jeffs Drop Sixth-Straight, Fall to Williams, 64-48
January 25 - Senior forward Sarah Walker tied career-highs with 18 rebounds and four steals while notching a team-high 17 points, but it was not enough to help the women's basketball team on Saturday, as the Jeffs dropped their sixth-straight, falling to visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College, 64-48. Jeffs Downed at Middlebury, 64-54
January 24 - The women's basketball team fell at NESCAC foe Middlebury College, 64-54, Friday night. Junior guard Shannon Russell paced the Jeffs with 14 points while senior forward Sarah Walker pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Full Story

Basketball Teams Set for Busy Weekend; Games Webcast Live on the Internet
January 22 - Amherst will host a trio of crucial NESCAC men’s and women’s basketball games this weekend, beginning with Friday night’s 7:00 men’s game against visiting Middlebury College, followed by a men’s and women’s doubleheader against visiting Williams College on Saturday, starting with the men’s game at 3 p.m. All three home games will be Webcast live on the Internet by campus radio station WAMH. Admission for Saturday’s doubleheader is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Children under 10 and Amherst students and staff with valid ID will be admitted free. Full Story

Jeffs Drop Fourth Straight With 64-58 Loss to Wesleyan
January 21 - After falling to Bowdoin College 91-61 on Saturday, the women's basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss, dropping a 64-58 decision to Little Three rival Wesleyan University in a non-league matchup Tuesday night at Lefrak Gymnasium. Amherst junior guard Marrisa McGuire tied career-highs with 12 rebounds and three steals while blocking a career- and game-high five shots in the loss. Full Story

Seventh-Ranked Bowdoin Routs Jeffs 91-61
January 18 - Riding the momentum of a 75-48 victory at Trinity College on Friday night, the seventh-ranked Bowdoin College women’s basketball team improved to 12-1 (2-0 NESCAC) with a decisive 91-61 win at Amherst College (9-4/0-2 NESCAC) on Saturday. The only thing that slowed Bowdoin was a rickety bus that delayed the Polar Bears’ arrival, causing the game to start 30 minutes late. Full Story

Jeffs Drop NESCAC Opener to Colby, 67-63
January 17 - Behind a dominating 27-point, 11-rebound performance by senior center Sarah Walsh, visiting Colby College outlasted Amherst, 67-63, in both schools' NESCAC women's basketball opener on Friday night. Amherst trailed by as many as nine points in the second half, cut the lead to one with 1:32 remaining, but couldn't complete the comeback. Full Story

Jeffs Drop 66-65 Heartbreaker to Visiting Babson
January 15 - Senior forward Ingrid Miller drained the first of two free throw attempts with 15 seconds left in regulation to lead the Babson College women’s basketball team to a 66-65 non-conference win at Amherst College on Wednesday night. Amherst had a chance to win or tie with two seconds remaining but committed a costly turnover on an inbounds play as time expired. Full Story

Jeffs Back on Track, Down Smith 62-41
January 13 - The Amherst women's basketball team rebounded from Saturday's non-league loss at Williams College with a 62-41 win at Smith College on Monday night. Junior Shannon Russell led all scorers with 17 points and senior Sara Bozorg added a dozen as the Jeffs improved to 9-1. Full Story

Women's Basketball Posts First Loss, 63-45, at Williams
January 11 - The previously undefeated Amherst women’s basketball team fell to 8-1 with a 63-45 non-league loss at NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College on Saturday. The visiting Jeffs held a 27-25 advantage at the break but were plagued by foul trouble and poor shooting in the second half. Amherst junior center Caitlin Farrell tied career-highs with 12 points and five blocks and pulled down a career- and game-high 15 rebounds in the loss. Full Story

Jan. 25th Basketball Doubleheader Against Visiting Williams Rescheduled for 3 & 5 p.m.
January 6 - Game times for the Amherst College men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader against visiting NESCAC and Little Three foe Williams College on January 25, originally slated for 2 and 4 p.m., have been pushed back to 3 and 5 p.m. at Williams’ request. Jeffs Outlast California Lutheran, 85-77
January 5 - After downing Occidental College on Friday night, the women's basketball team edged host California Lutheran University, 85-77, to complete its two-game west coast road trip on Sunday. Jeff sophomore guard Shannon Russell scored a game-high 29 points, while rookie forward Katie Latham chipped in with 20 points and nine rebounds. Full Story

Jeffs Move to 7-0 With 76-63 Win Over Occidental
January 3 - Amherst junior guard Shannon Russell scored a game-high 22 points as the women's basketball team improved to 7-0 with a 76-63 victory at non-conference foe Occidental College on Friday. Sophomore guard Lindsay White notched 18 points to lead the Tigers (3-4). Full Story

Russell Named NESCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
December 16 - Amherst shooting guard Shannon Russell was named the NESCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. The 5’ 7” junior sharpshooter drained five of seven three-point attempts and led the Jeffs in scoring for the third straight game as Amherst improved to 6-0 with a 68-52 victory over visiting Coast Guard last week. Undefeated Jeffs Cruise Past Coast Guard, 68-52
December 9 - The Amherst women’s basketball team held Coast Guard to just 29.6% (21-for-71) shooting and improved to 6-0 with a decisive 68-52 non-conference win over the visiting Bears on Monday. Junior guard Shannon Russell drained five of seven three-point attempts and led the Jeffs in scoring for the third straight game with 23 points, while senior Sara Bozorg and first-year Katie Latham chipped in with 12 points each. Jeffs Remain Perfect with 61-56 Win Over Westfield State in Pioneer Valley Women's Basketball Classic, Hosted by Springfield
December 7 - Amherst junior guard Shannon Russell drained a game-high 23 points to lead the Lord Jeffs past Westfield State, 61-56. Amherst, which won both games in the Classic, improves to 5-0 overall. First-year center Katie Latham added her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Full Story

Jeffs Move to 4-0 with 64-43 Win Over WNEC in First Round of Pioneer Valley Classic, Hosted by Springfield
December 6 - Amherst junior guard Shannon Russell scored a game-high 14 points as the Amherst women’s basketball team defeated Western New England College, 64-43, in the opening round of the inaugural Pioneer Valley Women’s Hoop Classic at Springfield College on Friday. Full Story

Latham Notches Third Straight Double-Double, Leads Undefeated Jeffs Past Keene St., 52-49
December 4 - First-year phenom Katie Latham notched her third double-double in as many games with 17 points and 11 rebounds on Wednesday night, including the tying basket and go-ahead free throw with 1:17 to play, to lead the undefeated Amherst women's basketball team to a 52-49 non-league win at Keene State College. Russell Shoots Jeffs Past WPI, 70-61, in OT
December 2 - Junior sharpshooter Shannon Russell poured in a team-high 21 points on the strength of five three-pointers to lead the Amherst women's basketball team to a 70-61 overtime victory at WPI on Monday night. The Jeffs improved to 2-0 with the non-league win, while WPI fell to 1-3. Full Story

Rookie Latham Leads Jeffs Past Mt. Holyoke in Season-Opener, 74-59
November 26 - First-year forward Katie Latham came off the bench with a double-double 19-point, 11-rebound performance in her collegiate debut on Tuesday night as the Amherst women’s basketball team won its home- and season-opener over non-league foe Mt. Holyoke College, 74-59. Junior forward Marissa McGuire joined Latham in double figures in points (10) and rebounds (12). Full Story

Veteran Jeffs Eye Return to Postseason in 2002-03
August 13 - The 2002-03 women's basketball team loses just one player to graduation and returns nearly its entire roster, including senior tri-captains Sarah Walker, Sara Bozorg and Brooke Diamond, making a return to the postseason seemingly inevitable. Head coach Billy McBride's Jeffs will open a challenging 24-game slate against visiting non-league foe Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday, November 26, with their conference opener against visiting Colby College set for Friday, January 17.
