Jeffs Blanked at Mt. Holyoke; Warner Tosses Four-Hitter in Defeat

April 28, 2003

S. HADLEY, MA - Rookie hurler Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) scattered four hits and struck out eight but fell victim to an unearned run in the second inning as the Amherst softball team fell at non-league foe Mt. Holyoke College 1-0 on Monday.

After striking out the side in the first, Warner gave up a one-out walk in the second. An infield error two batters later brought home the game’s only run.

Meanwhile, Mt. Holyoke starter Laura Pollett (East Hanover, NJ) allowed just two Amherst hits and struck out five en route to the complete game victory. First-years Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) and Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA) each singled for Amherst.

The Jeffs had the tying run on board with two outs in the seventh, but Pollett squelched the threat, ending the game with an infield pop-up.

Having been eliminated from NESCAC Tournament contention with Friday’s doubleheader loss at Williams College, Amherst wraps up its 2003 slate Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against visiting non-league foe Springfield College.
