March 20, 2003

FORT MYERS, FL - The Amherst softball team dropped to 2-4 with a pair of losses in Fort Myers, Florida on Wednesday, falling 8-5 to Lasell College and 2-0 to Endicott. Rookie hurler Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning in the nightcap but the Jeffs couldn't hold on.

Amherst committed six errors against Lasell, making life difficult for senior hurler Emily Melia (Hingham, MA), who surrendered four unearned runs in the loss, which dropped her pitching record to 0-2. Melia also had two hits, as did sweet-swinging rookie Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) and junior Della Huff (San Rafael, CA).

Warner scattered just two hits with two strikeouts against Endicott. She fell to 2-2 with the loss. First-year catcher Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) doubled and paced the offense with two hits.

Amherst returns to action in Fort Myers, Thursday at 9 a.m. against Worcester State, followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with St. Lawrence University.
