16th-Ranked Jeffs Fall at No. 6 Dartmouth Despite Match Wins by Strong, Valdesolo

HANOVER, NH - Sophomore Michael Strong (Wayne, PA) and senior co-captain Carlo Valdesolo (Andover, MA) won their battles on Wednesday, but the 16th-ranked Amherst menís squash team lost the war, falling at sixth-ranked Ivy League power Dartmouth College, 7-2.

Playing in the No. 2 slot, Strong routed Dartmouthís Jesse Nisselson, 3-0 (10-9, 9-4, 9-5), while Valdesolo, playing at No. 3, outlasted Andrei Prokopiv, 3-1 (9-6, 9-4, 3-9, 9-5). Dartmouth claimed six of the remaining seven matches by shutout, however.

The only other Amherst player to steal a game was rookie Nick Haslett (Bryn Mawr, PA), who extended Adam Slutsky to five games before falling, 3-2 (10-9, 9-0, 7-9, 4-9, 9-6).

The Jeffs, who hadnít played since a Dec. 7 win over Colby, fell to 2-1 with the loss. They return to action with a pair of matches at the University of Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday, taking on NESCAC rival Bowdoin College on Friday night (6 p.m.) and host Penn on Saturday morning (10 a.m.).
