Jeffs Season Ends with 14-8 Loss at Top-Ranked Middlebury in NESCAC Semifinals

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The fourth-seeded Amherst College men's lacrosse team was downed, 14-8, at top-ranked Middlebury College Saturday afternoon in the NESCAC Tournament Semifinals. With the loss, the Jeffs season comes to an end at 10-5 overall, while the Panthers improve to 13-1 and will meet either Tufts University or Wesleyan University Sunday at noon in the championship game.

Things looked good for Amherst early on. Senior attackman Chris Condlin (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore midfielder Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) each netted a pair of goals to help the Jeffs take a 5-3 lead into the second quarter. The Panthers rallied with the contest's next three goals to pull ahead, 6-5. Amherst sophomore middie Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO) tickled the twine to knot the score at 6-6 at halftime.

Middlebury exploded for four goals in a 3:06 span during the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead. The Jeffs cut the deficit to 10-7 before junior attacker Charley Howe (Darien, CT) scored a pair of the host's next three goals, extending the lead to 13-7. Junior attackman Mike Saraceni (Syracuse, NY) netted his fourth goal of the game to round the scoring out at 14-8.

Amherst sophomore netminder Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) finished with 12 saves, while junior Eric Kreiger (Princeton, NJ) stopped 11 shots for the Panthers. Seniors Stephan Hein (Washington, DC), Matt Margolis (Short Hills, NJ), Chris Kane (Swampscott, MA) and Condlin all played in their final game as Jeffs.
