April 22, 2003

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College swept New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week honors in men's and women's lacrosse on Monday after each team finished 2-0 on the week. Senior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) won the award on the women's side, combining for six goals and six assists in wins over Springfield College and conference-rival Bowdoin. Junior attackman Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY) claimed the men's award with seven goals and an assist in conference wins over Tufts University and Bowdoin.

Ouimet is the second leading scorer in the NESCAC with 59 points. She's also fifth in the conference with 29 goals and second with 30 assists, while leading the third-ranked Jeffs to a 10-1 overall record, 6-1 in league play, good for third place in the conference standings. A First-Team All-American as a junior, Ouimet is believed to be Amherst's career leader with 111 assists (and counting). She's played in three NCAA Tournaments, including two NCAA Final Fours and a trip to the NCAA Championship game in 2002.

Allison was instrumental in Saturday's dramatic 11-10 overtime win over Bowdon, torching the visiting Polar Bears for three goals and an assist, including the game-tying tally with 3:06 remaining in regulation. He also notched four goals in Wednesday's 15-13 win over Tufts and is 13th in the NESCAC in goals per game (1.73). At 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play, Amherst is tied with Wesleyan University for second place in the league standings.
