Kretzman Named First-Team All-NESCAC
March 6, 2003
AMHERST, MA - Amherst College men’s hockey sophomore Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN/Edina) was named First-Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. Kretzman, a second-team pick and the conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman, led the Jeffs and finished among NESCAC and NCAA leaders in nearly every offensive statistical category, including goals (19), assists (14), points (33), power-play goals (5) and power-play points (10).
Kretzman was also a New England Hockey Writers ECAC East/NESCAC All-Star selection last season after leading the Jeffs in goals (25), assists (19), and points (44). As a freshman, Kretzman eclipsed a number of Amherst scoring records, including the College's all-time single-season marks for goals and assists by a rookie. He fell just three goals shy of the Jeffs' overall single-season goal-scoring record of 28, set by Doug Smink in 1992-93, and one assist shy of the single-season record for assists by a freshman.
Amherst finished its season at 7-13-5 and was eliminated by Colby College in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament.
