Sharaf Leads Jeffs to 25th Place Showing at NEIGA Fall Championships
October 24, 2002
BREWSTER, MA – Sophomore Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) paced the Amherst men's golf team at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Fall Championships, held Monday and Tuesday at the par 72 Captains Golf Course, firing a 78-77-155 to lead the Jeffs to a 25th place finish in a competitive 47-team field. For his efforts, Sharaf – who also earned Second-Team All-NESCAC honors earlier this fall – was named to the tournament's Team New England. The University of Rhode Island claimed the team championship, while NESCAC rivals Middlebury and Williams paced the list of NESCAC participants with respective eighth and 12th place finishes.
Sharaf's two-day total gave him 25th place in the individual standings, ahead of a 99th-place, 84-83-167 finish by senior co-captain Jude Volek (New York, NY). Senior co-captain Todd Ballaban (Thousand Oaks, CA) posted matching 84-stroke totals over two days' play to take 107th place, and first-year Keith Zalaski (Simsbury, CT) landed in 148th place with an 85-88-173 showing. First-year David Litt (Bethesda, MD) rounded out the Amherst contingent with an 88-87-175 performance, good for 163rd place.
The NEIGA Championship Tournament marked the end of the Jeffs' fall campaign.
