Men's Golfer Justin Sharaf Named Second-Team All-NESCAC

AMHERST, MA After firing a two-day score of 153 and leading the Jeffs to a fifth-place showing at the NESCAC Men's Golf Championship Tournament held September 28-29 at Middlebury College's Ralph Myhre Golf Course Amherst College sophomore sensation Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) was named Second-Team All-NESCAC on the strength of his eighth-place individual finish. Sharaf was one of just two underclassmen named to the conference's second team, along with Bowdoin sophomore Asam Mackie.

Sophomore Brian Williams of Hamilton College earned Conference Player of the Year honors after firing a two-day total of 145 to claim tournament medallist honors. Middlebury seniors Damon Gacicia and Brad Tufts joined Williams as first-team selections after leading the Panthers to the team title. Last year's medallist, Will Sicks of Williams College, finished fourth with a score of 150. Trinity College senior Matt Greason and Williams senior David Mihm also garnered first-team honors after finishing tied for fifth with matching scores of 151.

Along with Sharaf and Mackie, Tufts senior Elliot Barr led seven players named to the All-NESCAC second team. Barr posted a 152 to finish seventh individually. Hamilton senior Tom Ferrero finished ninth with a score of 155. Four players tied for tenth place with matching scores of 156 seniors Dan Head of Hamilton and Aaron Flink of Williams, junior Ryan Simper of Middlebury and Bowdoin's Mackie. Each was named Second-Team All-NESCAC.

Freshman Dan Weinbeck of Tufts and his head coach, Bob Sheldon, were also honored. Weinbeck earned conference Rookie of the Year honors after posting a 159 and finishing tied for 17th. Sheldon was selected by his peers as the NESCAC Coach of the Year.
