Jeffs Steamroll Mass College, 115-84

November 26, 2002

NORTH ADAMS, MA - Amherst College senior center Pat Fitzsimons (Durham, NC) notched his second straight double-double on Tuesday night, pouring in 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a lopsided 115-84 victory at non-league foe Massachusetts College. Fellow senior Steve Zieja (Hadley, MA) added 16 points, while rookie John Bedford (Ridgewood, NJ) added a career-high 13 off the bench. The 19th ranked Jeffs improved to 3-0.

Amherst dominated every facet of the game, outrebounding the Trailblazers 61-36, forcing 15 turnovers and registering 10 blocks, five of which were credited to Fitzsimons.

Mass College led only once - a 13-11 advantage early in the first half - but Amherst junior Adam Harper (Washington, DC) knotted the score with a baseline jumper and Zieja drained a three-pointer to give the visitors the lead for good.

Senior Ben Howard (Huntington, WV) and junior Glen Mills (Springfield, MA) combined for 51 of Mass College’s 84 points - all for naught as the Trailblazers dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Amherst returns to action on Tuesday, December 3, at 7 p.m. against visiting 20th ranked Clark University.
