AMHERST, MA - Amherst College men’s basketball defensive stopper Adam Harper (Washington, DC) and women’s basketball sharpshooter Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA), both rising seniors, are currently featured on, a Website that serves the national college basketball community.

CollegehoopsNet editor Shawn Siegel interviewed both Harper and Russell, links to which can be found under "Interviews: Division 2 & 3" on the Website’s main page.

In his interview, Harper notes, “There is no excuse for not playing hard on the defensive end. Of course scoring is what every player enjoys the most, but my dad used to tell me that, ‘if you give up 20, then scoring 20 doesn't mean anything.’ ”

Harper, the 2002-03 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and a Second-Team All-NESCAC selection, paced the conference in steals for the second straight season and finished sixth in the nation in steals per game (3.5). He helped lead Amherst to a 24-5 record and its first trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals since 1994.

Russell, who’s on pace to shatter the College’s all-time scoring record in 2003-04, touched on her prolific three-point shooting. “When my teammates set good screens it’s pretty easy to get the shots off,” Russell explains. “Having the green light to shoot also helps. I don’t have to hesitate. I can just shoot when I’m open.”

A Second-Team All-NESCAC pick, Russell finished her junior season as Amherst’s career record holder in three-pointers made (198). With 1,057 points (and counting), she’s currently sixth on Amherst’s all-time scoring list, just 356 points shy of Liz Garner, who graduated in 1989 with 1,413 career points.
