Basketball Teams Set for Busy Weekend; Games Webcast Live on the Internet

January 22, 2003

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College will host a trio of crucial NESCAC menís and womenís basketball games this weekend, beginning with Friday nightís 7:00 menís game against visiting Middlebury College, followed by a menís and womenís doubleheader against visiting Williams College on Saturday, starting with the menís game at 3 p.m.

All three home games will be Webcast live on the Internet by campus radio station WAMH (visit Amherst's main athletics page for details). Admission for Saturdayís doubleheader is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Children under 10 and Amherst students and staff with valid ID will be admitted free.

The menís game against Williams is particularly noteworthy. The Ephs, ranked third nationally, are 13-0 (1-0 NESCAC) heading into a Friday night matchup at conference-rival Trinity College. Meanwhile, Amherst (13-2/2-0 NESCAC) jumped two spots to No. 10 in the latest national poll and has won four straight, including a pair of NESCAC victories at Bowdoin and Colby Colleges and Tuesday nightís 94-65 win over visiting Lasell College. The Jeffs and Ephs met in a non-league game earlier this season with Williams coming away with a hard-fought 74-65 win. Amherst has won eight of its last 11 meetings with Williams, although the Ephs have claimed two of the last three.

On the womenís side Williams is red-hot, winning its last six games en route to an 11-3 overall record (1-0 NESCAC), while Amherst (9-5/0-2 NESCAC) has struggled of late, dropping its last four after beginning the season at 8-0. Williams downed visiting Amherst in a non-league matchup on January 11, 63-45.
