Jeffs Edged by UMass Dartmouth, 6-5
April 30 - Senior DH Brian Pereira slapped a game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to give visiting UMass Dartmouth a 6-5 non-league baseball win at Amherst on Wednesday. Pereira went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and a run scored in what was a three-hour, 35-minute affair. Amherst fell to 15-10 with the loss, while UMass Dartmouth improved to 13-15-1. Full Story

Jeffs Bow to Brandeis, 15-8
April 28 - The Amherst baseball team committed six errors and used five pitchers in a 15-8 loss to visiting non-league foe Brandeis University on Monday. Brandeis pounded out 17 hits and scored nine unearned runs to up its record to 18-11-1. Amherst, ranked sixth in New England, fell to 15-9. Full Story

Jeffs Sweep Twinbill at Williams, Gain Outright Little Three Title, Regain First Place in NESCAC West
April 27 - The Amherst baseball team swept a doubleheader at Williams College on Sunday, winning the opener 5-0 and the nightcap 7-4, claiming the outright Little Three Championship and regaining first place in the NESCAC West Division standings. Junior right-hander Andy Kerns fanned eight Ephs and threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout in game one, improving his unblemished pitching record to 4-0. Full Story

Jeffs Fall From First Place with 6-3 Loss to Williams
April 25 - Williams College rebounded from an early 3-0 deficit to upend host Amherst 6-3 in a NESCAC West Division baseball matchup on Friday afternoon. The loss knocks Amherst out of first place in the division standings at 13-8 overall and 5-2 in league play. Williams, which logged its eighth straight win, remains in third (behind Amherst) at 18-6 and 6-3. Full Story

Jeffs Fall to 29th-Ranked Trinity, 7-4
April 23 - The Amherst baseball team saw a four-game winning streak fall by the wayside with a 7-4 non-league loss to visiting 29th-ranked Trinity College on Wednesday. Amherst, currently in first place in the NESCAC West Division standings, dropped to 13-7, while Trinity, which sits atop the NESCAC East Division, improved to 14-7. Full Story

Jeffs Retain First-Place with Three-Game Sweep at Hamilton
April 21 - After hammering NESCAC West Division rival Hamilton College 14-7 on Friday afternoon, the Amherst baseball team pounded the homestanding Continentals 13-5 and 21-0 on Saturday, retaining sole possession of first place in the conference standings at 13-6 overall and 5-1 in league play. Amherst batted a scorching .445 with 61 hits and nine home runs in the series, led by red-hot junior Fran Morales, who batted a cool .750 with two home runs and nine hits in 12 at bats. Full Story

Jeffs Outslug Hamilton, 14-7
April 18 - The Amherst baseball team improved to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC West Division play with a convincing 14-7 win at Hamilton College on Friday, the first of a three game set against the homestanding Continentals. Amherst’s big inning came in the second when they sent 10 men to the plate and scored seven runs. Dave Levinson and Fran Morales each hit a three-run homers run in the in the inning to blow the game open. Full Story

Santry Slugs Jeffs Past Keene State, 6-4
April 16 - Sophomore second baseman Josh Santry drilled a three-run home run over the wall in left field to give the Amherst baseball team a 6-4 non-league win over visiting Keene State College on Wednesday. Santry’s shot erased a 4-3 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning, upping Amherst’s overall record to 10-6 entering this weekend’s key three-game series at NESCAC West Division foe Hamilton College. Jeffs Split Non-League Twinbill with Bates
April 13 - The Amherst baseball team split a non-league doubleheader with visiting Bates College on Sunday, winning the first game 7-4 and dropping the nightcap 2-1. Junior center fielder Paul Whiting went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a two-run homer in the opener. Amherst moved to 9-6 with the split. Bates is now 2-7. Full Story

Jeffs Blanked at Fifth-Ranked Eastern Conn, 14-0
April 10 - The Amherst baseball team managed just three hits in a 14-0 loss at fifth-ranked defending national champion Eastern Connecticut State University on Thursday. Eastern Conn., which also blanked Albertus Magnus 2-0 earlier in the day, stretched its overall record to 17-4 and extended its current winning streak to nine games, while avenging last season’s 5-2 loss at Amherst. Vecsey Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week
April 7 - After pitching 3.2 innings of near perfect relief in last Wednesday’s dramatic 7-6 come-from-behind win at Little Three and NESCAC West Division rival Wesleyan University, Amherst reliever Chris Vecsey was named the NESCAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week on Monday. Vecsey shares the honor with Trinity College first baseman Robert Dolliver, who drove in five runs and hit for the cycle in a 14-12 non-league loss to WPI. Full Story

Jeffs Take Season Series Over Wesleyan with Dramatic 7-6 Win
April 2 - After splitting a NESCAC West Division doubleheader on Saturday, the Amherst baseball team took the season series from Little Three rival Wesleyan University with a dramatic 7-6 come-from-behind win on Wednesday. The Jeffs, ranked seventh in New England, trailed 6-2 early on but rebounded with a five-run seventh inning to seal the win. Full Story

Jeffs Open NESCAC Play with Doubleheader Split
March 29 - The Amherst baseball team opened NESCAC West Division play on Saturday with a doubleheader split against Little Three rival Wesleyan University. The visiting Cardinals took the opener 3-0 behind a complete-game, four-hit pitching performance by senior right-hander Bill Robinson. The Jeffs then rebounded with a 6-2 win in the nightcap as junior starter Andy Kerns scattered five hits in eight innings of work. Full Story

Jeffs Hammer Westfield St., 9-4
March 28 - The Amherst baseball team pounded out 13 hits and used five pitchers in a 9-4 win at non-league foe Westfield State College on Thursday. Senior co-captain John Schneider (Grand Rapids, MI) belted his third homer of the season as the Jeffs improved to 6-3. Full Story

Jeffs Cap Florida Trip with 5-3 Loss to Messiah, 24-5 Win Over Roger Williams
March 22 - The Amherst baseball team played hot and cold on Friday - the last day of its spring trip to Fort Myers, Florida - falling to Messiah College 5-3 and crushing Roger Williams University 24-5. The Jeffs cranked out 18 hits in the win over Roger Williams, while rookie hurler Joe Vladeck picked up his first collegiate victory. Amherst returns to New England with a 5-3 record. Full Story

Three Homers Not Enough; Jeffs Fall to 22nd-Ranked Ripon, 13-9
March 21 - Playing its second nationally ranked opponent in as many days in Fort Myers, Florida, the Amherst baseball team fell to 4-2 with a 13-9 loss to 22nd-ranked Ripon College on Thursday. Senior co-captains Joe Katuska, John Schneider and junior Paul Whiting each homered for the Jeffs. Junior right-hander Duncan Webb took the pitching loss. Full Story

Jeffs Drop 5-4 Heartbreaker to Ninth-Ranked Aurora
March 20 - Ninth-ranked Aurora (IL) University scored the winning run on an infield error in the final inning to hand the Amherst baseball team its first loss of the season in Fort Myers, Florida on Wednesday. The Jeffs fell to 4-1 with the 5-4 setback. All five Aurora runs were unearned. Full Story

Baseball Continues Hot Streak, Improves to 4-0 with 14-3 Win over Worcester St.
March 18 - The Amherst baseball team is as hot as the sun in Fort Myers, Florida, where they steamrolled Worcester State College 14-3 on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Jeffs have now scored 49 runs on a whopping 56 hits in their four wins, while holding opponents to just nine runs. Sophomore slugger David Powers tagged his second round-tripper in as many games to lead the offense. Full Story

Jeffs Improve to 3-0 with 9-4 Win Over Fontbonne
March 18 - The Amherst baseball team improved to 3-0 with a convincing 9-4 victory over Fontbonne College (St. Louis, MO) in Fort Myers, Florida on Monday. The Jeffs cranked out 13 hits in the win, upping their season total to a whopping 46 base knocks in three games. Senior co-captain John Schneider and sophomore David Powers each hit home runs for Amherst. Full Story

Baseball Opens Florida Swing with 13-1 Wins Over Bluefield State, SUNY Fredonia
March 17 - Seeing its first action without a roof over its head, the Amherst baseball team opened its Florida swing with a pair of 13-1 wins over Bluefield State College. and SUNY Fredonia. The Jeffs pounded out a whopping 33 hits in the pair of wins, while senior Jonah Ansell and junior Andy Kerns picked up pitching victories. The game against Bluefield St. was a last minute replacement for a game originally scheduled against Johns Hopkins. The game against Hopkins will not be rescheduled. Full Story

Jeffs Eye Return to Postseason
March 12 - The Amherst baseball team entered the 2002 campaign with sky-scraping aspirations, believing that they would be headed for their second-straight postseason berth. However, a damper was placed on the Jeffs’ season when they dropped their final conference game and saw their playoff hopes fall by the wayside. The 2003 squad returns a wealth of veterans looking to avenge last season’s heartbreaking defeat and return to the NESCAC’s upper echelon. Full Preview
