Head women's squash coach Jackie Bagwell enters her 12th season at Amherst where she has earned national recognition as one of the finest coaches in the nation. Also the women's tennis coach, the Kokomo, Indiana native has led Amherst's women's tennis team to four consecutive NCAA Division III Final Four appearances, including the college's first and only national championship in any sport in 1999. Her squads have also produced back-to-back national singles champions and a bevy of All-Conference and All-America performers during her 10-season tenure. Bagwell's experience and dedication remains the X-factor for Amherst.

She's attracted national and regional attention of late, earning Boston Area Coach of the Year honors at the annual Boston Sports Awards in 2000. Bagwell competed against Boston Red Sox manager Jimmy Williams and Boston Bruins head coach Pat Burns, among others, for the honor. As an undergrad, Bagwell spent three seasons as the top-ranked singles player at Columbus College before transferring to the University of Texas-Permian Basin, where she led the Falcons to an NAIA National Tournament appearance. She then graduated from the University of Indiana in 1986 with a degree in History/Physical Education and worked as a teaching pro at the Jimmy Connors United States Tennis Center in Florida. Prior to moving to Amherst, Bagwell spent two seasons coaching at Division III rival Hamilton College.
