Third-Ranked Jeffs Down Conn. College, 14-5

April 9, 2002

AMHERST, MA - After falling to top-ranked Middlebury College on Saturday, the Amherst College women's lacrosse team rebounded by downing visiting NESCAC foe Connecticut College, 14-5, Tuesday afternoon at Hitchcock Field. Sophomore attacker Allison Aldrich (Cornwall, VT) paced the Jeffs with six goals. Amherst sophomore midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) chipped in with four goals and an assist, while junior attacker Erin Beaumont (Summit, NJ) tacked on a pair of goals and two assists.

The Camels hung tough through the game's first half. Sophomore middie Emily Steiff (Baltimore, MD) tallied her second goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the opening stanza to cut the Amherst lead to 6-4. The Jeffs exploded for eight second half strikes while holding the visitors to just a single goal. Junior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) notched her seventh goal of the season, taking a feed from junior midfielder Mary Kate Allen (Sprinfield, MA) and burying a shot into the back of the net. Shortly thereafter, senior co-captain Cara Coscarelli (W. Hartford, CT) stripped a Camel player of the ball and fired a pass to Beaumont who scored moments later, giving the Jeffs an 8-4 advantage. Amherst would go on to tickle the twine six more times and Camel junior attacker Caley Boyd (New Canaan, CT) tallied a late goal to set the final score at 14-5.

Junior goaltender Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) was stellar in net, turning away seven Conn. College shots. Camel goaltender Paige Diamond also played well, finishing with 11 saves. With the victory, Amherst improves to 5-1/3-1 while the Camels fall to 2-6/0-6.

Amherst returns to action Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at non-league foe Wellesley College.
