||Head Coach Kay Cowperthwait enters her fifth season at Amherst after five years as the head women's lacrosse coach at Division I Stanford University. As an undergrad at NESCAC rival Colby College, Cowperthwait was a standout two-sport athlete, captaining the women's ice hockey and lacrosse teams and twice earning team MVP honors in both sports before graduating in 1991. She was also a First-Team All-ECAC selection in ice hockey as a senior. In the off-season, Cowperthwait serves as Amherst's assistant golf coach and is a former assistant women's lacrosse coach.
A native of Hampstead, NH and a 2001 Amherst graduate, Gretchen Bowe joins head coach Kay Cowperthwait's staff after an outstanding two-sport playing career. As a senior, Bowe finished as the Jeffs' second all-time leading scorer with 76 goals, 84 assists and 160 points and was the team's third leading scorer in 2001 despite missing six games with knee and wrist injuries. She was also the NESCAC Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American in field hockey, captaining the Jeffs to a 14-3 overall record and a berth in the first-ever NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament in her final season. Upon graduating, Bowe was awarded the College's prestigious Hitchcock Fellowship and works as an assistant coach for the field hockey and softball teams in addition to her time on the ice.
