Gravel & Ratner Earn Second Straight NGCA All-Scholar Awards

2002 Team
Junior Katie Gravel was the Jeff's top finisher at the Lady Eagle Invitational

May 21, 2002

AMHERST, MA After the women's golf team's recent third-place finish at the Division III NCAA Championship Tournament, Amherst College senior captain Jaime Ratner (Liberty, NY) and junior Katie Gravel (Manchester, ME) were named to the 2001-02 Division III All-Scholar Team by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) for the second consecutive season. They were the only players from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) to be so honored.

Gravel had an outstanding spring, leading the Jeffs to an eighth-place showing as the team's top finisher at the Lady Eagle Invitational, hosted by Boston College the weekend of April 6. The psychology/pre-med major went on to finish 11th at the Hartford Invitational, 28th at the Northeast Championships and 28th at the NCAA Championship Tournament.

The team's lone senior and a two-year captain, Ratner was a NESCAC All-Academic selection last fall. Although she didn't participate in this year's NCAA Tournament, she had a standout season nonetheless, finishing fifth individually at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational, most notably. Ratner will graduate this weekend with a degree in geology.

Inclusion on the 2001-02 NGCA Division III All-Scholar team requires an overall grade-point average of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for freshmen and sophomores, while juniors and seniors must have an overall GPA of 3.4 or better.
