S. HADLEY, MA Behind a fourth-place individual showing by first-year phenom Emily Foran (Dallas, PA), Amherst College shot a final-round team score of 342 on Friday to finish third overall at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College at the par 72 Orchards Golf Club.

Methodist College ran away with its fifth straight NCAA title with a four-day total of 1,310, (327- 339- 322- 322), 31 strokes ahead of Mary-Hardin Baylor's 1,341 (343- 344- 322- 332) and 74 strokes in front of Amherst's 1,384 (342- 361- 339- 342). The Jeffs were second at the conclusion of Tuesday's first round and dropped to third place on Wednesday, where they remained for the rest of the tournament.

"This is huge for us," noted Amherst head coach Michelle Morgan, who also guided the Jeffs' women's soccer team to the NCAA Championship game last fall. "It's like winning the national championship."

Foran's play was nothing short of spectacular. The precocious rookie was in contention throughout the week, opening with an 81 on Tuesday (good for third place individually), followed by a scorching 80 on Wednesday (which moved her into second place), another 81 on Thursday and a final-round score of 85 on Friday.
