Women's Golf Second After Opening Round of NCAA Championships

SOUTH HADLEY, MA - The Amherst College women's golf team shot a total of 342, good for second place at the NCAA Championship Tournament at Orchards Golf Club after the opening round of play. Defending champion, Methodist College finished in first place, firing a 327, putting them 15 strokes ahead of the Jeffs.

Amherst's leader, first-year Emily Foran (Dallas, PA) finished the par 72 course with 81 strokes, which ties her for third place with senior Alicia Golembeski (Waconia, MN), an individual golfer from Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Orchards Golf Club at Mount Holyoke College is the host site of these national championships, which run from May 14 - May 17. 20 NCAA Division III institutions are represented, as 10 teams of five golfers and 10 individuals from around the country were selected to compete at the tournament. These 60 golfers are challenging each other, and themselves, through four rounds of play on a 5,801-yard, par 72 course.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 8 a.m. for the second round of action.
