AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's golf team earned its second consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament berth on Monday afternoon. The Jeffs will be paired up with two-time defending champion Methodist College in the Region 1 bracket.

Amherst is coming of a stellar regular season in which they won the Hartford Invitational, Lady Eph Invitational and placed third in the Massachusetts State Championships. In Hartford, the Jeffs were paced by sophomore Kathryn Kuchefski (Wellesley, MA), who shot a 169 to place seventh overall. Junior Katie Gravel (Manchester, ME) followed her up with an 11th place performance, firing a 172. First-years Emily Foran (Dallas, PA) finished in 21st place, while Meg Sullivan (Northampton, MA) place 22nd, shooting scores of 177 and 178, respectively. Junior Jeannie Limpert (Bethesda, MD) rounded the scoring out for the Jeffs, tallying a 203.

Kuchefski finished first individually in the Lady Eph Invitational and was a critical factor in the team's first-place finish. Foran, first-year Sarah Godwin (Swarthmore, PA), and Sullivan performed tremendously, finishing second, fourth, and sixth individually with scores of 85, 88, and 89, respectively.

The Jeffs also posted a sixth place finish at the Northeast Championships this spring. Kuchefski tied for 12th place, shooting an 83 (+11). Foran followed her teammate up, finishing in a tie for 17th place with an 84 (+12). Gravel fired a two-day total of 85-86-171 to lead Amherst to an eighth-place finish at the Lady Eagle Invitational. Foran and Sullivan also shot rounds of 92-87-179 and 92-98-190, respectively, for Amherst.

Senior captain Jaime Ratner (Liberty, NY) shot a team-best 84-81, good for fifth place at the Mount Holyoke Invitational, earlier this year. Junior Kasarin Chakkaphak (New York, NY) shot a 181, taking home second place behind Limpert, in the NESCAC Individual Tournament.

The championships will be conducted May 14-17 at The Orchards Golf Club on the campus of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Two teams from each of the five regions were selected for the championships. Regions 2 and 3 received three individual berths, Region 4 received two individual berths, and Regions 1 and 5 received one individual berth each. The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score.
