BRUNSWICK, ME - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team moved one step closer to clinching home-court advantage for the NESCAC Tournament by defeating visiting Amherst College on Friday night, 72-53. Bowdoin, ranked fourth in the latest national poll, moves to 21-1 on the season (7-1 NESCAC), while Amherst fell to 11-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Bowdoin can assure the top seed tomorrow with a victory over Trinity, while Amherst sits on the outside looking in for playoff consideration.

Amherst led by as many as six points in the early-going, but Bowdoin reclaimed the advantage at the half, 27-26. The Polar Bears maintained the lead early in the second frame, and led 32-31 at 17:07 before putting the game away with a 15-0 run. The spurt gave Bowdoin a 47-31 edge at the 12:41 mark and the Polar Bears would stretch the lead to as many as 24 points before closing out the win.

Kristi Royer was outstanding, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the victory. Lora Trenkle had 16 points, while Jessie Mayol added 11 and five assists. Amherst was led by three players in double figures, including Sarah Bergman (12), Marissa McGuire (11) and Sarah Walker (10).
