MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College women's basketball team fell 51-40 at Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Tuesday night in a game that featured 51 turnovers, despite team-highs of 11 points from sophomore Marissa McGuire (Minneapolis, MN) and junior Sarah Walker (West Hartford, CT). Wesleyan's 10-3 record matches its best start in school history, while the Jeffs fell to 8-5 with their second straight loss.

The host Cardinals went on an 11-0 run over a five-minute span in the first half to turn what was a 13-10 deficit into a 21-13 lead. Wesleyan then held its advantage to at least six points the rest of the way and led by as many as 15 points, 38-23, with 11 minutes left in regulation. Amherst committed 28 turnovers and shot just 29.5 percent (13-for-44) in the loss, falling victim to a Wesleyan defense that entered the game holding opponents to just 30.9 percent shooting.

Amy Posocco and Nora Bowman paced the Cardinals with 11 points each, while Kamica Lewis added a game-high eight rebounds. The victory gave Wesleyan a 2-0 record in Little Three play after a 51-42 win over Williams College earlier this season.

Amherst returns to action Friday night at 6 p.m. for a non-league tilt at Williams.
