Jeffs Fall Victim to Second Half Rally, Losing at Colby, 65-44
February 16 - The Amherst women's basketball team closed its 2001-02 season with a heartbreaking 65-44 loss at NESCAC rival Colby College on Saturday, despite leading 31-26 at halftime. With the loss, the Jeffs finish at 11-12 overall and 2-6 in conference play, narrowly missing a berth in the upcoming NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament. Full Story

Jeffs Fall at Conference Rival Bowdoin, 72-53
February 15 - The Amherst women's basketball team fell at fourth-ranked Bowdoin College, 72-53, on Friday night. The Polar Bears led 32-31 with 17:07 left in the second half before putting the game away with a 15-0 run. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 11-11 overall and 2-6 in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin improves to 21-1 and 7-1. Full Story

Women's Hoop Wins Second Straight Conference Game, 74-54, Over Conn.
February 9 - After entering the weekend winless in NESCAC play, the Amherst women's basketball team posted it second conference win in as many days on Saturday, pounding visiting Connecticut College, 74-54, at LeFrak Gymnasium. Sophomore shooting guard Shannon Russell paced the Jeffs with a game-high 15 points, while junior quad-captain forward Brooke Diamond added eight points and tied a career-high with 11 rebounds. Jeffs Notch First Conference Win, 51-39, Over Wesleyan
February 8 - Junior quad-captain forward Sarah Walker poured in a game-high 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting and the Amherst defense held visiting Wesleyan University to just 19.0% (7-for-33) from the floor as the Jeffs handed the visiting Cardinals a 51-39 loss in NESCAC women's basketball action on Friday night. The win was Amherst's first in conference play, improving to 1-5 in the NESCAC while evening their overall record at 10-10. Full Story

Jeffs Fall at Trinity, 53-48
February 2 - Despite team-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds from junior forward Sarah Walker, the Amherst women's basketball team remained winless in NESCAC play with a 53-48 loss at conference rival Trinity College on Saturday. Kate McCloskey paced the host Bantams with game-highs of 19 points and 16 rebounds. Full Story

Jeffs Snap Six-Game Losing Skid with 76-55 Win at N.E.C.
February 1 - The Amherst women's basketball team outrebounded undersized non-league foe New England College 60-32 on Friday night, snapping a six-game losing streak with a 76-55 win in Henniker, NH. Sophomore sharpshooter Shannon Russell led the Jeffs with a game-high 23 points, while senior guard Hallison Putnam poured in a career-high 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Full Story

Women's Hoop Drops Sixth Straight, 71-58, to Tufts
January 26 - Junior Emily Goodman scored 13 of her team-high 19 points in the second half as Tufts University came from behind for a 71-62 victory over Amherst College in NESCAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Sarah Bergman paced the Jeffs with 23 points in defeat. Full Story

Women's Hoop Falls at Bates, 71-58
January 25 - The women's basketball team led by as many 10 points midway through the first half, but host Bates College outscored Amherst 23-11 over the next 10 minutes en route to a 71-58 victory. Sophomore sharpshooter Shannon Russell paced the Jeffs with 22 points in defeat. With the loss, Amherst drops to 8-8 overall and 0-3 in NESCAC play. Full Story
