WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - After falling to Tufts University yesterday, the Amherst College softball team returned to action Saturday and were downed by Bowdoin College, 7-1, in the NESCAC Championship Tournament. The Jeffs have now been eliminated from the tournament.

The Polar Bears drew first blood in the top of the second inning when Sheridan smacked a triple into the outfield, scoring a pair of runs. Amherst countered in the bottom of the frame when senior catcher Becca Binder (Scarsdale, NY) singled in sophomore third baseman Jessica Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH), who also reached on a single. The Jeffs could not pierce the scoring column the rest of the way as Bowdoin went on to rack up another five runs. They did the brunt of the damage in the top of the third inning, tallying a trio of runs on their way to victory.

Allen and Binder each finished 2-for-3 on the day and senior hurler Lauren Peloquin (Berkley, MA) took the loss for the Jeffs, dropping to 14-9, while Poulin notched the win for the Polar Bears and improved to 12-3.

With the loss, Amherst's season comes to an end, finishing with a record of 17-14, while Bowdoin improves to 25-9-1, advancing to the next phase of the tournament.
