SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Amherst College softball team blanked non-league host Springfield College, 5-0, in their regular season finale Wednesday afternoon at Potter Field. Senior hurler Lauren Peloquin (Berkley, MA) was stellar on the mound for the Jeffs, tossing a three-hit shutout, while striking out five.

Amherst pierced the scoring column in the top of the opening inning. Sophomore first baseman Gina Scribner (Star, ID) ripped an RBI double into the outfield, scoring junior outfielder Tamara Baer (Amherst, NY) who reached on a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. The visitors would go on to add a pair of runs in the second and third innings.

The Jeffs brought two runners across home plate in the second when junior shortstop Missy Mordy (Sammamish, WA) reached on a throwing error by the Pride pitcher. Junior second baseman Emily Melia (Hingham, MA) singled to right field in the third inning, knocking in Scribner. Shortly thereafter, Melia came across to score from third on a passed ball.

Peloquin's record improves to 14-7, while Springfield pitcher Amy Brucker drops to 4-9. With the victory, Amherst concludes the regular season with a record of 17-12 overall, while the Pride fall to 20-23.

The Jeffs return to action Friday at 5 p.m. against Tufts University in the NESCAC Championship Tournament at Williamstown.
