MEDFORD, MA - The Amherst College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Tufts University. Jumbo senior pitcher Jodie Moreau (Clarksburg, MA) tossed a three-hit shutout as the hosts won the opening game, 5-0. In the second game, the Jeffs tallied their lone run off a Tufts error and the Jumbos earned the victory, 4-1.

Amherst sophomore Jessica Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH) led off game one with a single, but Moreau went on to retire the next 10 batters. The Jumbos tallied a pair of runs in the fourth inning when Moreau hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by sophomore Deana Davidean (Chelmsford, MA). Moreau - now 15-1 on the season - finished with 10 strikeouts.

The Jumbos built a 4-0 lead in game two. Singles by sophomore Maggie McClory (Melrose, MA) and junior Nikki Blotner (San Diego, CA) brought home runs in the second. The hosts then scored another pair of runs in the fourth. The Jeffs broke up the shutout in the top of the seventh when junior rightfielder Jenna Obelsky (Stoughton, MA) led off with a single, moved up on a single by first-year pinch hitter Kristin Bradley (Santa Ynez, CA) and scored on a Tufts error. Amherst sophomore first baseman Gina Scribner (Star, ID) added a pair of hits in the game.

With the pair of losses, the Jeffs fall to 16-10 overall, while the Jumbos have now won nine in a row and improve to 22-7. Amherst returns to action Saturday at noon for a doubleheader against visiting NESCAC West Division foe and Little Three rival Williams College.
