Jeffs Sweep Rochester and Franklin & Marshall

Junior David Bauer posted a particularly impressive win against Rochester

LANCASTER, PA - The Amherst College men's squash team - ranked 15th in the nation according to the latest NISRA poll - improved to 6-5 with a pair of wins over 26th ranked University of Rochester and 14th ranked Franklin & Marshall College on Friday and Saturday.

The Jeffs whitewashed Rochester, 9-0, in the opener, sweeping every match, 3-0. Amherst junior David Bauer (Darien, CT) posted a particularly impressive individual win, rolling Rochester sophomore Dave Easwaran (Princeton, NJ), 9-0, 9-0, 9-0.

Franklin & Marshall, which hosted the tri-match, presented more of a challenge, especially at the top of the draw, handing the Jeffs' No. 1 and 2 seeds a pair of early losses. Amherst rebounded by winning six of the remaining seven matches, with three of their six victories coming by way of shutout. First-year Gifford Sommerkamp (Bethesda, MD) and juniors John Holodnak (Wellesley, MA) and Bauer each posted 3-0 wins for Amherst, while senior John Brody (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Asad Haque (Richmond Hill, Ontario) posted a pair of hard-fought 3-2 victories. First-year Brian Lawrence (Concord, MA) added a 3-1 win over Franklin & Marshall sophomore Jake van Roden (Villanova, PA).

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. for an exhibition match against visiting Dublin City University.
