LEWISTON, ME - After being stunned in overtime yesterday by Bowdoin College, the Amherst College men's lacrosse team returned to action and edged Bates College, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore attackman Craig McBeth (Wycoff, NJ) tallied a man-up goal 17 seconds into overtime, giving the Jeffs the victory. Senior attackman Harlow Voorhees (Chevy Chase, MD) paced the Jeffs with a trio of goals and an assist. Sophomore attackman Mike Allison (W.Nyack, NY) also tacked on a goal and a pair of assists.

Bates scored three goals in the opening quarter and led 3-2 at the break. Amherst dominated face-offs in the final quarter and tallied a trio of goals. Voorhees notched his third strike of the day with 1:08 remaining to send the game into the extra session. McBeth then tallied his second goal to end the contest.

First-year goaltender Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) finished with 12 saves for the Jeffs, while Mark Dobbyn recorded 13 for the Bobcats. With the victory, Amherst improves to 6-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while Bates drops to 7-5 and 3-4.

The Jeffs return to action Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at NESCAC foe Connecticut College.
