Jeffs Skate Past Visiting NESCAC Foe Conn. College, 7-4
February 8 - The Amherst men's hockey team skated past visiting NESCAC rival Connecticut College, 7-4, Friday night at Orr Rink. Senior forward Bob Miele paced the Jeffs with a hat trick and a pair of assists while teammate first-year sensation Beau Kretzman chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist. Full Story

Jeffs Fall at Top-Ranked Middlebury, 5-3
February 2 - The Amherst men's hockey team fell 5-3 at top-ranked Middlebury College Saturday afternoon. Middlebury scored a pair of third period goals to seal the victory and improve to 17-1-1 while the Jeffs drop to 4-11-5. Co-captain Greg Carr tallied a pair of goals and an assist for the visitors while first-year phenom Beau Kretzman chipped in with two assists. Full Story

Men's Hockey Blanked at NESCAC rival Williams, 7-0
February 1 - The men's hockey team fell at NESCAC rival Williams, 7-0, Friday night. With the loss the Jeffs drop to 4-10-5 overall and 4-6-4 in conference play. Ben Fash and Matt Starkey combined for the first shutout of the year for the Ephs. Williams (11-5-2) is now unbeaten in its last five games, winning four over that stretch. Full Story

Men's Hockey Falls to Visiting St. Anselm, 5-1
January 26 - Despite outshooting the visitors, 35-17, the Amherst men's hockey team fell to visiting ECAC East foe St. Anselm College, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink. First-year forward Keegan Rosenberger paced the visitors with a pair of goals while junior Jeff Kuhn chipped in with a goal and an assist. Hawk senior goaltender Andrew Zoppo was stellar in net, finishing with 34 saves, while junior Justin Jagher recorded 12 saves for Amherst. Full Story

Men's Hockey Drops Stunner to N.E.C, 4-3
January 25 - The Amherst men's hockey team surrendered a two-goal advantage heading into the final period and fell to visiting ECAC East foe New England College, 4-3, Friday night at Orr Rink. Sophomore forward Travis Banga tallied the game-winner for the Pilgrims 14:40 into the third period. First-year forward and leading NESCAC scorer Beau Kretzman paced the Jeffs with a pair of goals and an assist in defeat. Full Story

Jeffs Post Fifth Tie, 5-5, at Mass. College
January 19 - The Amherst men's hockey team posted its fifth tie of the season, skating to a 5-5 deadlock at ECAC East rival Mass. College on Saturday. The Jeffs (4-7-5/4-3-4) took a 4-0 lead into the third period against the Mohawks, only to surrender five goals in the final stanza before a scoreless overtime. Full Story

Men's Hockey Skates Past Host Skidmore, 6-2
January 18 - The Amherst men's hockey team skated past host Skidmore 6-2 Friday night. First-year sensation Beau Kretzman led the Jeffs with two goals and two assists. Senior forwards Greg Carr and Bob Miele each chipped in with a goal and an assist. With the victory, Amherst improves to 4-7-4 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play. Full Story

Men's Hockey Skates to 1-1 Tie Against Visiting Southern Maine
January 12 - The men's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie against visiting Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink. First-year forward Beau Kretzman scored the lone goal for the Jeffs while Huskies captain Andrew Gardner tallied the tying goal 17:41 into the third period. Both goalies were stellar in net as Amherst junior Justin Jagher recorded 16 saves while Southern Maine first-year goaltender Matt Collaton turned aside 26 shots. Full Story

Men's Hockey Blanked by Visiting ECAC East Foe Salem State, 7-0
Janurary 11 - The men's hockey team was blanked, 7-0, Friday night by visiting ECAC East foe Salem State College. Viking junior goaltender Kaleb Christenson recorded 23 saves to earn the shutout, while senior forward Chris Stark tallied a hat trick and an assist to pace the visitors. Full Story

Men's Hockey Edged by Visiting NESCAC Foe Trinity, 3-2
January 8 - The Amherst men's hockey team fell to visiting NESCAC rival Trinity College (6-5/4-3), 3-2, Tuesday night at Orr Rink. Bantam senior co-captain Jeffrey Griffin scored the game-winner 6:49 into the final period giving the visitors their sixth victory of the season. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 3-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play. Full Story

Men's Hockey Snaps Three-Game Skid With 5-1 Victory Over Wesleyan
January 4 - Behind a pair of goals and an assist by senior forward Bob Miele and a 19-save performance by junior goalie Justin Jagher, the Amherst men's hockey team ended a three-game losing skid with a lopsided 5-1 win over visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University Friday night at Orr Rink. With the win, the Jeffs improved to 3-5-3 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play, snapping a tie with Wesleyan (3-5-2/3-3) for sixth place in the NESCAC standings. Full Story

Men's Hockey Falls to Defending National Champs Plattsburgh St., 6-2
January 2 - The Amherst men's hockey team returned to action after a 25-day layoff and dropped a 6-2 decision to defending Division III National Champion Plattsburgh State University Wednesday night at Orr Rink. Juniors Peter Ollari and Paul Dowe each scored a pair of goals for the visiting eighth-ranked Cardinals, who improved to 10-4 with the win, while Amherst fell to 2-5-3 with its third straight loss. Jeffs Stunned by Visiting Elmira, 5-4
December 8 - After blowing a two-goal lead to visiting R.I.T. on Friday night, the Amherst College men's hockey team returned to Orr Rink Saturday afternoon and surrendered a third period, 4-3, advantage to visiting ECAC foe Elmira College, en route to a 5-4 loss. Senior defender Kenny Keil redirected a slapper past Jeff junior goalie Jaffrie Perrotti for the game-winner, 12:53 into the final stanza. Full Story

Jeffs Surrender Two-Goal Lead, Fall to Third-Ranked R.I.T., 5-3
December 7 - Third-ranked R.I.T. rebounded from a two-goal deficit to upend host Amherst College, 5-3, in an ECAC men's hockey matchup Friday night at Orr Rink. First-year center Jason Chafe capped a wild second period with what turned out to be the game-winner for the visiting Tigers, emerging from a scrum in front of the net to wrist home the second of three R.I.T. power-play goals. Amherst vs. R.I.T. to be Audio Webcast
December 7 - Tonight's (Friday, December 7) Amherst men's hockey game against visiting ECAC-rival Rochester Institute of Technology will be audio Webcast on the Internet via R.I.T.'s local radio station, 89.7 WITR. Jeffs Tie Hamilton, 3-3
December 4 - The Amherst men's hockey team jumped out to a 3-1 lead on goals by first-years Beau Kretzman, Jon Hill and senior Bob Miele, but couldn't hold on as host NESCAC rival Hamilton College (4-1-1) rebounded with a pair of second period goals to knot the score at 3-3, where it would stand through overtime. It was the Jeffs third tie of the season, as they fall to 2-2-3 overall. Full Story

Men's Hockey Snaps Two Game Skid with 6-4 Win at St. Michael's
December 1 - The men's hockey team scored twice in the first five minutes of the third period to snap a 4-4 tie and defeat host St. Michael's College, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at Cairns Arena. Greg Carr put Amherst ahead 1:48 into the third period as he wristed a shot from the slot through the pads of Purple Knights' goalie Simon Theberge. John McNicholas then gave the Jeffs a two-goal lead with a slapper from the right point at 4:20. Full Story

Jeffs Fall to Norwich, 6-1
November 30 - The men's hockey team fell to 1-2-2 with a 6-1 loss at ECAC-rival Norwich University on Friday night. The Jeffs' lone tally came on a power play in the waning seconds, when senior forward Bob Miele found the back of the net with his fourth goal of the season off a power play feed from sophomore Mike Kreger. Jeffs Fall to Trinity in Spurrier Consolation, 7-4
November 25 - After tying host Wesleyan, 3-3, in the first-round of the four-team Spurrier Tournament on Saturday, Amherst took on NESCAC rival Trinity College in consolation action on Sunday, bowing to the Bantams, 7-4. The loss was Amherst's first of the season, dropping their record to 1-1-2 overall. Full Story

Jeffs Play Wesleyan to 3-3 Tie, Fall in Shootout
November 24 - Amherst sophomore forward Mike Kreger knotted the score with 10:14 left in regulation before a scoreless overtime period sent the game into a shootout, where host Wesleyan University's Scott Rissmiller notched the only goal, sending the Cardinals on to the championship game of the Spurrier Tournament with what was officially called a 3-3 tie Saturday in Middletown, Connecticut. Amherst will play Trinity College in the tournament's consolation game Sunday at 1 p.m. Full Story

Jeffs Rout UMass-Boston, 14-2
November 17 - Nine different Amherst players scored, including senior forward Bob Miele, who finished with a hat-trick and an assist, as the Jeffs bombed visiting UMass-Boston, 14-2, in an ECAC Division III men's hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink. Amherst tallied eight third period goals en route to the blowout, improving to 1-0-1 with its first victory of the season. UMass-Boston fell to 0-2 with the loss, having been outscored 21-6 in its first two games. Full Story

Amherst Men's Hockey Opens Season With Scoreless Tie Against Babson
November 16 - The Amherst College men's hockey team opened its regular season by skating to a 0-0 tie against visiting ECAC rival Babson College on Friday night. Both goaltenders were stellar in net as Amherst junior Justin Jagher (Framingham, MA) made 32 saves and Beaver senior Greg Berard (Woonsocket, RI) stopped 33 shots on the night. The two teams had many opportunities but were unable to capitalize throughout the game. Full Story

Ninth Ranked Men's Hockey Ready for Tough Regular-Season
November 13 - Picked to finish fifth in the NESCAC during the 2000-01 preseason, the Amherst men's hockey team advanced to the championship game of the conference postseason tournament and narrowly missed out on an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Quite a season for a team that caught a lot of opponents by surprise. Amherst won't have that luxury this year. Ranked ninth in the nation despite graduating eight seniors, the 2001-02 Jeffs open their season Friday night at 7:00 against visiting ECAC foe Babson College. Full Story
