Men's Golf 12th at NEIGA Championsip

BREWSTER, MA - Coming off a fourth place showing at the Western New England College Invitational on October 12, the Amherst College men's golf team made a strong push at the 67th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, held Sunday and Monday in Brewster, MA. The Jeffs played to a 631-stroke, 12th place finish in the 46-team field, edging 13th-place NESCAC-rival Williams College by four strokes. The University of Rhode Island fired a tournament-low 584, while the University of Hartford and Central Connecticut State University also made impressive stabs at the title, posting scores of 591 and 599 for second and third place, respectively.
Individually for Amherst, junior Jude Volek (New York, NY) paced the Jeffs with an 80-74-154 two-day total for 33rd place. Senior captain Mike Blaisdell (S. Strafford, VT) followed suit with a 39th place, 77-79-156 finish, and junior Todd Ballaban (Thousand Oaks, CA) marked his scorecard with a 78-79-157 to end his weekend in 44th place. Jeff senior Steve Collins (Beverly Hills, MI) pulled in a 97th place, 82-82-164 weekend, and first-year Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) rounded out Amherst finishers with a 134th place, 84-87-171 showing.
The Jeffs will now look to the upcoming spring season with the assurance of a fall stint that saw them finish well in several tournaments, including a second-place showing at the NESCAC Invitational over the weekend of Sept. 22.
