Men's Golf Ties for Fourth at WNEC Invite

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Amherst College men's golf team fired a combined score of 332 to tie for fourth place with Babson College at the Western New England College Invitational, held at the par 72 Veterans Golf Course, on Thursday. Junior Jude Volek (New York, NY) led the Jeffs for the second straight tournament, shooting an 80 to finish in a six-way tie for eighth place individually.

Host WNEC won the Invitational by eight strokes with a scorching 309, followed by New York University at 317 and Salem State at 319. Southern New Hampshire's Chris Rivard took the individual title with a tournament-low 72.

Including Volek, Amherst placed four golfers in the top third of the 108-player draw. Junior Todd Ballaban (Thousand Oaks, CA) shot an 82 to finish in a four-way tie for 19th, first-year Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) finished tied for 27th with an 84, and senior captain Mike Blaisdell (South Strafford, VT) shot an 86 - good for a four-way tie for 31st.

Amherst returns to action on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 22-23, at the New England Championships in Brewster, MA.
