Men's Golf Places Second in NESCAC Tournament

WILLIAMSTOWN - The Amherst men's golf team earned strong performances from Mike Blaisdell (S. Strafford, VT) and Jude Volek (New York, NY) in placing second in the NESCAC Fall Golf Tournament at Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown, Mass. this weekend.

The Jeffs two-day total of 623 (309-314) was bested only by first-place finishers Williams who finished at 605 (299-306). Middlebury finished third out of the 11 teams with 642 points (328-314), shooting 328-314-642.

Blaisdell, the Jeffs senior captain, led the way for Amherst, shooting a 77-75-152 on the par-71 course, good for third place overall. Volek was close behind Blaisdell, leaving the course with a sixth-place, 73-82-155 mark. Junior Todd Ballaban (Thousand Oaks, CA) recorded a 81-75-156 score, giving him seventh place, and first-year Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) contributed a 13th place, 78-82-160 score to the Amherst effort. Rounding out the Jeff weekend, senior Steve Collins (Beverly Hills, MI) played to an 84-89-173 finish, good for 37th place.

For his efforts, Blasidell was given First Team All-NESCAC honors. In addition, Volek and Ballaban picked up Second Team All-NESCAC accolades.

The Jeffs will return home on October 7-8 when they host the Toski Invitational, the only Amherst-hosted event of the season.
