Men's Golf Ninth at Middlebury's Duke Nelson Tourney

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's golf team opened its fall slate with a ninth place showing at the Duke Nelson Tournament, hosted by NESCAC rival Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. Senior captain Mike Blaisdell (South Strafford, VT) fired a two-day score of 74-81-155 and finished tied for 19th overall to pace the Jeffs.

Newcomer Justin Sharaf (Danvers, MA) shot a similarly impressive 79-79-158 and finished tied for 27th, followed by junior Todd Ballaban (Thousand Oaks, CA) in 41st (84-78-162), junior Steve Collins (Beverly Hills, MI) in 54th (80-85-165) and first-year Mike Valentine (Topsfield, MA) in 63rd (79-88-167).

Amherst posted a team score of 312-323-635, just 25 strokes behind eventual winner Skidmore College, who won the tournament in a tiebreaker over Williams College.
