AMHERST, MA - Amherst College sophomore shooting guard John Donovan (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after pouring in a career-high 22 points on 9-for-13 shooting in Saturday's 72-70 overtime win over previously undefeated and 10th ranked Williams College.

Amherst - ranked 21st in Division III according to the latest Basketball American National Poll - jumped out to a 19-4 lead against Williams, with Donovan scoring nine points on 4-for-4 shooting during the run. The visiting Ephs clawed their way back into the game, however, and seven lead changes and five ties ensued in the second half. Trailing 60-59 after a Williams three-pointer, Donovan rattled in a blind shot and drew a foul for Amherst, completing a clutch three-point play to put the hosts ahead 62-60 with 1:18 left in regulation. He then snapped a 5-0 Williams run in overtime with a momentum-shifting layup, igniting a 7-1 Amherst flurry over the game's final 2:17 to cemented the win.

Donovan was also impressive with 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting in Amherst's 86-62 win over visiting Colby-Sawyer College, which entered the game with an 8-2 record and a string of five consecutive wins over NESCAC opponents this season. He now leads the Jeffs and is second in the conference in three-point shooting at an even 50.0 percent (19-for-38), and is Amherst's third leading scorer at 10.5 points per game.

The Jeffs return to action Tuesday night at 7:30 for a non-league matchup against visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University (9-3).
