March 18 - Amherst forward Steve Zieja's list of postseason accolades keeps growing. Already tabbed First-Team All-NESCAC, First-Team All-Northeast and Second-Team Verizon Academic-All District, the junior tri-captain was named First-Team All-ECAC and First-Team NABC All-District (Northeast Region) on Monday. March 15 - After earning First-Team All-NESCAC honors and leading the Amherst College men's basketball team to the NCAA "Sweet 16" for the first time since 1994, junior tri-captain Steve Zieja was named First-Team All-Northeast and Second-Team Verizon Academic All-District, as nominated and selected by sports information directors from across the region. Men's Hoop Ends Season With NCAA Sectional Loss at SUNY Brockport
March 8 - For a moment, it looked like Amherst was headed to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 1994. Then disaster struck. Leading by eight points with 3:28 left in regulation, the Jeffs fell victim to a 13-0 SUNY Brockport run, as the host Golden Eagles rose from the dead to down Amherst, 69-64, in the Sectional Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament on Friday night. Jeffs to Play SUNY Brockport in NCAA Tournament Sectional Round on Friday
March 4 - The NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament is down to 16 teams and sites and times for sectional play were announced this morning. Amherst (22-6) - which advanced to the round of 16 with Saturday's 82-77 second-round win over visiting Western Connecticut State University - will travel to SUNY Brockport to take on the host Golden Eagles (27-2) Friday at 8 p.m., after a 6 p.m. sectional game between Babson College (25-4) and the University of Rochester (22-4). Zieja Propells Jeffs Past Western Conn. & Into "Sweet 16"
March 2 - The men's basketball team advanced to the Division III NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" for the second time in school history on Saturday with an 82-77 second-round win over visiting Western Connecticut State University. Junior tri-captain forward Steve Zieja led the way with a game-high 29 points, while classmate Pat Fitzsimons added his team-high 11th double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Opponent Set for Saturday Night; Jeffs to Host Western Connecticut State in NCAA Tournament Second Round
March 1 - The Amherst College men's basketball team will host Western Connecticut State University in the second round of the Division III NCAA Championship Tournament Saturday at 7 p.m. The Jeffs drew one of 16 first-round byes in the tournament, while Western Connecticut State advanced to the second round with a 92-89 win over visiting Salem State College on Thursday night. Zieja & Fitzsimons Earn All-NESCAC Honors
February 27 - Amherst College men's basketball juniors Steve Zieja and Pat Fitzsimons were named First- and Second-Team All-NESCAC on Wednesday, respectively, after leading the Jeffs to their second straight NESCAC Championship and third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. Saturday's NCAA Tournament Second-Round Game Set for 7 p.m.
February 27 - Saturday's men's basketball NCAA Tournament second-round game at Amherst between the host Jeffs and the winner of a first-round matchup between Western Connecticut State University and Salem State College has been set for 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $4.00 for general admission and $3.00 for children and students with valid ID. Doors at LeFrak Gymnasium will open at 5:30 p.m. Full Story
