Jeffs Take Doubleheader From Hamilton
April 20 - The Amherst baseball team took both games of a doubleheader against visiting NESCAC West Division foe Hamilton College Saturday afternoon. Amherst ace Dave Krauser tossed a complete-game in the opener, in which the Jeffs pounded out 17 hits and won, 11-3. Sophomore hurler Duncan Webb followed up Krauser's performance, also going the distance, allowing just four hits as the Jeffs took the second game, 9-1. Full Story

Jeffs Down NESCAC West Division Foe Hamilton, 5-1
April 19 - The Amherst baseball team downed visiting NESCAC West Division foe Hamilton College, 5-1, Friday afternoon at Memorial Field. After a brief rain delay, senior hurler Jeff Leduc came out and tossed a complete-game, allowing just one run and six hits while striking out six Hamilton batters. Full Story

Jeffs Fall at Keene State, 12-5
April 17 - Justin Hickman had four hits, including a home run and five RBIs, and James Slack and Buzzy Francis pitched scoreless ball over the first seven innings in Keene State College's 12-5 non-conference baseball victory over Amherst at Owl Stadium on Wednesday. Keene State (14-13) moved over the .500 mark with the win, while Amherst falls to 11-13. Full Story

Jeffs Split Non-League Twinbill at Bates
April 14 - In its first trip to Lewiston, Maine since 1982, the Amherst (11-12) baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Bates College (5-7-1) on Sunday. Amherst ace Jeff Leduc tossed a four-hit, complete-game shutout in the opener, which the Jeffs won, 3-0. Bates rebounded for a 7-6 win in game-two despite multiple hit games from five different Amherst batters. Full Story

Jeffs Upended at Brandeis, 6-5
April 13 - The Amherst baseball team was upended at non-league foe Brandeis University, 6-5, Saturday afternoon. The host Judges rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to steal the victory. With the loss, the Jeffs drop to 10-11 overall, while Brandeis improves to 14-8. Full Story

Jeffs Surprise Fifth-Ranked Eastern Connecticut, 5-2
April 10 - For the second time this season, the Amherst baseball team defeated an opponent ranked in the top-five nationally, surprising visiting fifth-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field. The Jeffs, who evened their record at 10-10, have played four ranked teams this season, including a season-opening 5-4 victory over then third-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University on March 16. Full Story

Hochrein's Two-Run Single Wins 16-Inning Marathon at Middlebury
April 7 - Senior first baseman Jim Hochrein snapped a 0-0 stalemate with a two-run single in the top of the 16th inning as the Amherst baseball team took the last of a three game set at Middlebury College, 2-0, on Sunday. The Jeffs and Panthers also split a NESCAC West Division twinbill on Saturday. Full Story

Jeffs Split NESCAC Twinbill at Middlebury
April 6 - The Amherst baseball team came within a half inning of sweeping a NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Middlebury College on Saturday. However, after winning the opener 8-1 behind a complete-game pitching performance by senior Dave Krauser, the Jeffs coughed up a one-run lead in the ninth inning in the nightcap, as Middlebury's Neil Higgins singled in the winning run for a 6-5 Panther victory. Baseball Drops Fourth Straight, 6-0, at UMass Dartmouth
April 3 - The Amherst baseball team eked out just four hits en route to its fourth straight defeat, a 6-0 shutout loss at non-league foe UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon. First-year outfielder David Powers did the only damage offensively for Amherst, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Full Story

Wesleyan Baseball Takes Doubleheader from Amherst, Completes Three-Game Sweep
March 30 - After downing Amherst 11-6 on Friday, the Wesleyan University baseball team completed a three-game sweep over the Jeffs on Saturday, winning both ends of a NESCAC West Division doubleheader, 5-3 and 6-5, at Andrus Field. Full Story

Jeffs Drop NESCAC Opener to Wesleyan, 11-6
March 29 - The Amherst baseball team fell victim to a complete-game pitching performance by Wesleyan University junior southpaw Dave Vanech, as the visiting Cardinals downed the Jeffs 11-6 in both team's NESCAC West Division opener on Friday. With the loss, Amherst fell to 7-6 overall, while Wesleyan improved to 7-5. Full Story

Jeffs Hammer Westfield State 13-2 in Home-Opener
March 28 - The Amherst baseball team pounded out a season-high 18 hits, while sophomore starter Duncan Webb scattered just six hits with no earned runs and six strikeouts over seven complete innings, as the Jeffs blasted visiting non-league foe Westfield State College, 13-2, in their home opener on Thursday. Baseball Drops Florida Finale to Second-Ranked St. Thomas, 6-1
March 24 - The Amherst baseball team concluded its 11-game Florida swing with a 6-1 loss to the defending Division III National Champion University of St. Thomas on Sunday. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak for the Jeffs, who return to Amherst with a 6-5 overall record. Full Story

Jeffs Take Twinbill From Kalamazoo
March 23 - Junior right-hander Jonah Ansell tossed a complete game in the opener and classmate John Schneider scored the winning run in extra innings in the nightcap as the Amherst baseball team swept a pair of one-run games from Kalamazoo College, edging the Hornets 6-5 and 7-6 Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. Leduc Pitches Jeffs Past St. Lawrence, 4-1
March 22 - Behind a complete-game, two-hit pitching performance by senior hurler Jeff Leduc, the Amherst baseball team snapped a two-game losing skid with a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence University Friday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. The win was Leduc's first of the season as he improved to 1-0 and the Jeffs evened their record at 4-4 overall. Full Story

Jeffs Drop Second Straight, Fall to Seventh-Ranked So. Maine, 9-6
March 21 - The Amherst baseball team posted its second straight defeat on Thursday, falling 9-6 to the University of Southern Maine ranked seventh in the nation according to the latest ABCA Division III poll in Fort Myers, Florida. Junior first baseman Brett Nicol cracked his second career round-tripper in defeat, as the Jeffs dropped to 3-4 on the season. Full Story

Baseball Falls to Coe in Ft. Myers, 5-1
March 20 - The Amherst baseball team continued its spring swing in Fort Myers, Florida on Wednesday with a 5-1 loss to Coe College. Sophomore center fielder Paul Whiting provided the only offense in defeat with two hits and an RBI, as the Jeffs fell to 3-3 overall. Full Story

Krauser Earns Second Straight Win as Jeffs Edge Rowan, 4-3
March 19 - The Amherst baseball team improved to 3-2 with a 4-3 win over Rowan University Tuesday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. Senior right-hander Dave Krauser surrendered just one earned run with nine strikeouts in seven innings to earn his second win in as many starts. Full Story

Jeffs Drop 6-5 Heartbreaker to Johns Hopkins
March 18 - The Amherst baseball team continued its tough early-season slate with a 6-5 loss to Johns Hopkins University Monday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. The two teams combined for 27 hits in the nine-inning affair. The Jeffs fell to 2-2 with the loss. Full Story

Amherst Splits Twinbill With UMass-Boston
March 17 - After opening its season with a 5-4 win over third-ranked and previously-unbeaten Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, the Amherst baseball team split with UMass-Boston on Sunday, winning the first game, 4-0, before dropping the second, 10-7. Junior starter Johah Ansell was stellar in the opener, scattering just two hits with nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Full Story

Jeffs Win Season-Opener Over Third-Ranked Ohio Wesleyan
March 16 - Senior right-hander Dave Krauser surrendered just two hits and no earned runs in 6.1 innings, as the Amherst College baseball team opened its 2002 campaign with a 5-4 win over third-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. The loss was Ohio Wesleyan's first of the season after 12 straight victories. Full Story

Pitching, Defense Keys to Second Straight Postseason Berth
March 11 - Pitching depth, strong catching and excellent outfield defense will be the strengths the Amherst College baseball team will rely on most in vying for a return trip to the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament this season. The Jeffs return five seniors, including starting pitchers Jeff Leduc and Dave Krauser, from a 2001 club that posted a 20-14 overall record and finished second in the NESCAC West Division at 8-4.
