AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College baseball team swept both games of a doubleheader against visiting non-league foe Colby College Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field. Senior hurler Jeff Leduc (Pittsfield, MA) tossed a three-hit shutout as the Jeffs won the opener, 3-0. The hosts then pounded out 10 hits to win the second contest, 9-1.

In game one, Amherst junior catcher Joe Katuska (Southboro, MA) went 3-for-3. His first hit came in the bottom of the third, knocking a double into left field, scoring first-year outfielder David Powers (Andover, MA). Shortly thereafter, Katuska scored on a throwing error by the White Mule shortstop. In the bottom of the sixth, he struck again, bashing a solo homerun over the left field wall to round the scoring out at 3-0. With the victory, Leduc moved to 4-2, while sophomore Brandon Royce (Augusta, ME) dropped to 2-4.

The Jeffs tallied all the runs they would need for game two in the bottom of the first inning. Powers grounded out to the shortstop, scoring first-year shortstop Josh Santry (Allendale, NJ), who reached on an error. Junior outfielder John Schneider (Grand Rapids, MI) then came across to score on another Colby miscue. Senior second baseman John Brody (Baltimore, MD) lined a single to center field moments later, scoring Katuska and extending the Amherst lead to 3-0. The Jeffs would tack on six more runs on their way to the victory. Sophomore pitcher Andy Kerns (Barrington, IL) notched the win and improved to 3-2, while junior Kevin Presbrey (Aurora, IL) fell to 2-4.

With the pair of victories, Amherst concludes the regular season with a record of 19-15, while Colby drops to 8-19.
