Amherst Trounces Mount Holyoke
Katie Hersey Notches 19 points and reaches 1,000 for career

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- The Lady Lord Jeff basketball team notched their first win of the season in impressive style, downing the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College 81-35. Amherst sported five players with double figures in scoring and held the visiting Lyons to just 21% shooting from the field.

Senior co-captain Katie Hersey (Westford, MA) tallied 19 points and pulled down 5 rebounds on the evening and brought her career scoring total to 1,001. Hersey is just the fifth woman in Amherst history to reach the 1,000 point mark in a career. Click here to see the all-time Amherst women's scoring list. Hersey hit a free throw with 4:59 left in the game to reach the momentous plateau. Freshman guard Cara Coscarelli (West Hartford, CT) had a big night, scoring 11 points on five of six shooting from the field in just 21 minutes on the floor.
