Nips Amherst 55-54 on Last Second Free-Throw
Janinne Noel '99 leads all scorers with 20
AMHERST, Massachusetts -- The Babson College Beavers erased a 10 point second half deficit and hit a clutch free-throw with just seconds remaining on the clock to defeat the Amherst College Lord Jeffs 55-54. Amherst had a stronghold on the momentum throughout the first half and took a 26-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. At the start of the second, the Jeffs looked as though they were going to run away from the scrappy Beavers and held several 10 point advantages throughout the final frame. Babson slowly, but surely, made a final run at the Jeff lead and tied the score with three seconds left in regulation. With the score knotted at 54, Babson center Shannon Campbell (Wakefield, MA) was fouled in the paint. Despite the pressure and noise from the Amherst student cheering section, Campbell drained the first shot to give the Beavers a 55-54 edge. She missed the second, but the Jeffs only had 2 seconds to work with and never came through with a final shot. Babson was led by the 16 points scored by Shannon Campbell. Amherst's Janinne Noel (Dalton, MA) led all scorers with 20 points. Amherst forward Katie Hersey (Westford, MA) notched another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
