Amherst Storms Back to Down Wesleyan, 61-50
Janinne Noel's 1,000th career point sparks Jeffs to comeback victory

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst used the momentum from Janinne Noel's 1,000th career point to spark a comeback win over their NESCAC and Little III rival Wesleyan University. Down by 9 points at halftime, Amherst went on a quick 12-4 run to start the second and then took the lead at 43-42 on a Noel layup, her eleventh point of the night and the 1,000th of her illustrious Lord Jeff career. In all, the Jeffs outscored the Cardinals 40-20 in the second half and pulled away for a decisive 61-50 win.

The story of the second frame can be summarized by three key factors. One, Amherst out-rebounded the Cardinals 26-12 and also out-shot them 51.8% to 33.3%. Two, the Jeffs received an outstanding effort both emotionally and statistically from junior forward Naomi Sullivan (Hudson, MA). Sullivan led the Jeffs with 17 points and 11 rebounds, her first double-double of the season. She hit seven-of-eight free throws down the stretch to ice the victory. Three, the emotional lift from Noel's historic night was too much for the visiting Cardinals to handle. All said, the Jeffs earned their eighth win of the year and are primed for the crucial upcoming weekend when they face Colby at home on Friday and Bowdoin at home on Saturday.
