Amherst Overcomes Big Early Deficit to Topple Tufts, 72-66

MEDFORD, Massachusetts -- Senior co-captain Janinne Noel (Dalton, MA) scored 23 points with eight assists as the visiting Amherst Lord Jeffs overcame an 18 point first-half deficit to post a 72-66 victory against the Tufts Jumbos in NESCAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Tufts led 33-15 with 8:41 remaining in the first half. The Jeffs worked to cut the margin to 41-35 by hafltime, then caught the Jumbos at 61-61 on senior Crystal Campaigne's (Harvard, MA) basket with 3:30 to play in the second half. With the game tied at 63-63 and 1:25 remaining, the Jeffs scored nine straight points at the free throw line including five by Noel to lead 72-63 with 14 seconds left.

Amherst, which scored on 11 of 18 field goal attempts in the second half (61.1%), stopped a two-game skid and improved to 10-11 overall. Lord Jeff junior Naomi Sullivan (Hudson, MA) added 12 points and nine rebounds.
