Bowdoin Resists Late Amherst Rally
Visiting Polar Bears pull out the 65-62 win

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- The final five minutes of today's women's basketball game between Amherst College and Bowdoin College closely resembled a circus roller-coaster. With the score teetering at 52-51 in Amherst's favor with 4:54 remaining, everyone expected a tight finish, and they got one, just not the way that might be expected. From that point in the contest, Bowdoin went on a rally that put them ahead 60-52 with just 1:28 left on the clock. The game seemed all but over until the Lord Jeffs resorted to fouling the Polar Bears and launching three-pointers at their own end. Senior co-captain Janinne Noel (Dalton, MA) hit two of three from downtown in the final minute and brought the score back to 62-60. The luck of the purple and black ran out at that point, however. Bowdoin guard Samantha Good (Haverhill, MA) proved her name right by draining 6 of 6 from the free-throw line down the stretch to put the charging Jeffs away.

After being held to just three points in the first half, Amherst senior forward Katie Hersey (Westford, MA) stormed out of the gates and scored 15 in the socond for a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, another double-double for the phenomenal forward. The Polar Bears recieved 14 points apiece from Samantha Good and Lauren Myers (South Boston, MA). The win catapults the Bowdoin record to 14-5 while the loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Amherst and drops their record to 9-10.
