Bates Women Down Amherst, 79-62

LEWISTON - Bates senior Amy Taylor (Orono) scored her 1,000th career point
in the second half as the Bates College Bobcats (18-3) cruised to a 79-62 victory over the Amherst College Lord Jeffs (9-11) in Alumni Gym.

Taylor became the ninth player in Bates history to score 1,000 when she hit a 3-point field goal with 7:48 remaining in the game. Taylor is the Bobcats' career leader in 3-pointers, hitting her 103rd to reach the milestone. The Bobcats shot 55 percent from the floor in the first half (20 of 36), while holding Amherst to 35 percent shooting (10 of 28) en route to a 47-28 halftime lead. Bates Sophomore Katy Dutille (Lebanon, N.H.) led all scorers with 20 points, while junior Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.) had 19 points. Amherst was led by seniors Kate Hersey (Westford, Mass.), who had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Crystal
