STATE NO MATCH FOR AMHERST
Five Amherst players score in double-digits in 108-78 win
AMHERST, Massachusetts -- The Amherst College Lord Jeff men's basketball team played with methodical precision in a 108-78 trouncing of Westfield State College tonight at LeFrak Gymnasium. Led by 17 points from junior guard Erik Kelly (Staples, MN), the Jeffs steamrolled the Owls from the opening tip. Shooting 57.9% from the field and 50% from behind the arc, Amherst led by 15 at the half and 30 at the closing buzzer. Also in double figures were Chris Ingraham (17), Chris Smith (14), Hugh Quattlebaum (10) and Brian Daoust (10).
The game was highlighted by two monster dunks from Amherst players Patrick Mulvey and Jackson Collins. In the middle of the second half, Collins took a pass on the left baseline, slashed to the hoop, elevated over the Westfield State defender and threw down the dunk right in his face. The Owls immediately took a timeout in an attempt to alleviate the momentum from the big play.
Amherst plays on Tuesday evening at Worcester State College at 7:30 p.m.
